Extreme weather linked to greenhouse gases, global warming, Stanford study says

Weird weather and climate warming are two separate things, but a Stanford team is linking them.

Using math, powerful computers and historical records, research led by Noah Diffenbaugh found that climate change has boosted the odds of extreme heat, drought, punishing rainstorms and retreating sea ice.

“The odds of hitting record-setting level of extremes have been made greater by climate warming,” caused by human emission of greenhouse gases, said Diffenbaugh, a professor of Earth system science at Stanford’s School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences.

In the past, scientists typically avoided conflating individual weather events and climate change, citing the challenges of teasing apart human influence from the natural variability of the weather.

The new paper, the latest in a burgeoning new field of climate science called “extreme event attribution,” links them. Published in last week’s Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the team built the first-ever “four-step framework” for testing whether global warming has contributed to record-setting weather events.

OK!! Everybody pay attention!

Lesson for today:

1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.

2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.

3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.

4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.

5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.

Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?

Oh, yeah!!!

These assholes are using the same data as they used in 1975.

Do you suppose that they will change their tune over the next 8 years to keep the gravy flowing in? Will they actually begin to find that there is NO PROBLEM with climate change to keep the current administration happy? At some point, I expect they to begin serving the new paymasters as they begin to starve. Whores, indeed.

If you look at a graph of global estimated temperature, estimated carbon dioxide versus time on a scale of millions of years, you will see that carbon=n dioxide FOLLOWS temperature.

That is to say that rising temps brings on higher CO2 levels, not the opposite.

“Using math, powerful computers and historical records...”

ah, I see, well then, in that case...it must be scientific fact, as asserted by the article.

There’s no possible way that the formula the computer is running could be wrong, or the historical data be inaccurate.

I’m sure there was no effort to produce evidence for a predetermined conclusion!

Now, where do they show the correlation to actual weather events recently? ...you know, in reality where extreme events have been on the decline?

It’s fascinating that all you have to do is say “math and computers reveal X” and everyone accepts it as truth. Garbage-in garbage-out, that’s all computers do. Get the equation right and it’s a useful tool, get the equation wrong and the computer still runs it, it can’t tell it’s wrong. This isn’t science. That’s not how the scientific method works.

By this method, I could “prove” that the world ended yesterday.

Given that “extreme” weather incidence has been steadily declining for some years now, if it is, indeed, linked to AGW, then it demonstrates that either AGW is lessening or it is a crock.

In a blow to those that want to link increased severe weather with global warming/climate change, a new record low has been set according to NOAA tornado data. At the same time, it has been 2750 days (7 years, 6 months, 11 days) since the last major Hurricane (Cat 3 or greater) hit the USA on October 24th 2005 when hurricane Wilma made landfall. Each new day is a new record in this major hurricane drought.

Recent reports have stated that droughts, floods, tornados, and hurricanes are ALL way DOWN.

I was reading an article today about a study of the effects of MJ on drivers ...fell of my chair when I came to the statement by the researcher that "There's no science behind it."

Pretty much sums up most research labeled as *scientific*.

lol - science is really about having a hypothesis and trying to prove it wrong. What we have today are theories that people try to show “could be right” and then make it the basis of policy as though it is “scientific fact”.

All one has to do is go through old journals. Most of it now shown to be wrong. If half of all “science” journal material is wrong, how much of the media news is true?

Especially because the gov’t is so willing to give out grants for these bogus studies.

Perhaps under *45* this will end, or slow down to a trickle.

They really need to come up with a new hoax. The man-made climate change hoax has run its course. What do you suppose the new hoax will be?

“What’s the next hoax?”

I’ve thought a lot about that, but I haven’t a clue. Who ever would have expected trannies would come after the homos won everything they wanted? Who ever would think men in ladies bathrooms would be their cause du jour? The insane left never fails to disappoint.

But could another hoax command hundreds of billions of tribute like this one? Hard to imagine.
