AllahPundit: "Rush on the terrible spending bill: 'Why is anybody voting Republican, if this is...'"
Hotair ^ | MAY 1, 2017 | BY ALLAHPUNDIT

It’s a fair question.

I know the headline makes it sound like he’s criticizing Trump, but after a year and a half of Rush Limbaugh applauding him at every turn, you should know better than that by now. He sort of criticizes him. It’s the special interests who are responsible for this garbage spending bill, he insists, aided and abetted by the corrupt Republican establishment. All true enough, but how about the superhero whom America elected to impose his will on Washington and to drain the swamp? Does he bear any blame? Would Obama bear any blame on conservative talk radio if Democrats controlled Congress during his presidency and produced a bill like this?

Limbaugh concedes that Trump should be more proactive, writing his own legislation and sending it to the Hill. But what if, and bear with me here, what if Trump … just doesn’t care much about the details of legislation? That might explain why we ended up with a bizarrely anti-populist health-care bill and a series of surreal reversals on core campaign points like NATO’s obsolescence and China’s currency manipulation. What if his main concern is popularity, in the form of averting any shutdowns for which he might be blamed, instead of major policy gains?

But the dirty little secret is that there isn’t any evidence that anywhere in Washington is there any aspect of the Trump agenda on display. It doesn’t seem to be that in the House of Representatives that there is a desire to implement any of the Trump agenda. It doesn’t seem in the Senate that there is a desire to implement any of the Trump agenda. It does seem in the House that there is a lot of energy devoted to stopping a Trump agenda. Ditto in the Senate…

This budget is a direct slap in the face. This budget is a stop sign. And it’s throwing down the gauntlet. “You may be elected president, but you’re not getting anything. Nothing’s gonna happen here.” And if Donald Trump cannot rely on the members of his own party — are you really telling me we can’t get a replace and repeal Obamacare bill after all this time? And I don’t mean since Trump won the election; I’m talking about since it was passed seven years ago, six, whatever it is now…

I’m telling you, folks, the will isn’t there. The establishment, whatever you want to call this bunch of people, the ruling class, the establishment, the donors, whatever you want to call ’em, they’re not just gonna roll over and let Trump implement those things that he campaigned on just because he won the office, just because he won the presidency. And he’s going to have to overcome this if he’s going to be successful. And the way he’s going to have overcome it, he’s going to have to have his own staff, legislative staff in the White House that writes this legislation and muscles its way through…

I have to think he knows better than I do, better than anybody else does, ’cause he’s living it. I don’t know what his expectations were. I can believe that he expected the Republicans were gonna be deliriously happy at his victory and deliriously happy to work with him, and I fully think that he expected the Republicans to be on his team and that they would be working together to get a whole lot of this stuff done to fix and repair America and stop this descending trend that our country is in.

It’s almost as if he’s been stabbed in the back. If only there was some way the executive could block a terrible bill from becoming law. Any ideas?

The RNC is like a race horse that always stumbles before it can cross the finish line: it never pays.

Yes, Republicans suck ... they suck majorly.

But they don’t suck as bad as Democrats do.

Republicans occasionally try to resist the growth in government but once it’s done, even if it’s high handed lawlessness, they turn around a protect government as an ongoing concern ... much as Eisenhower did.

When you no longer believe in governance by constitutional means, when you only believe in the accumulated list of abuses and misconstructions that government has gotten away with so far BUT you still want to slow the grown of same into new areas that isn’t “good” by any measure.

But it does suck less that believing so very badly but wanting to expand into new lawlessness and new abuses with gusto as the scum in the DNC lust for.

Pity us: our choice has for too long been between the unfaithful and the proudly faithless.

The wrong question. The right question is what has taken us so long to launch a nationwide actually conservative party and when are we going to get going on one?

Speculation is that DJT is moving the writing of legislation to the WH, circumventing K-Street. By not entertaining ex-Congressmens’ paralyzing grip of Congress, in theory they will shrivel to dust while bills are constructed in-house.

First, give Trump credit for what he has done. Because he has been pretty busy his first 100 days.

Second, it’s a wasted effort for Trump to write his own legislation if the Republicans aren’t going to support it. So Trump cheer leads. And he negotiates behind the scenes. And he takes what he can get.

It’s probably not a good idea to go to war with the Republicans at this early stage. Although there were rumors that he was going to work with the democrats to get healthcare reform at some point.

He probably should get what he can now. And then use the bully pulpit to go back for the remaining items.

And when elections are up in 2 years, then Trump needs to help drain the swamp and drive the rinos out.

The only people Trump has threatened to primary so far are the conservatives. Your scenario might be possible if that was an act.

An easy answer. Neil Gorsuch and one or two more. There are many many more reasons. More than you can imagine but just Neil Gorsuch was worth it all.

We have to remember these two parties are private entities that are in it for themselves. They might as well be Joe Blow's Snake Oil Company that can cure all our ills. It's a sham...and now they're shown for what they are. Only Trump can stop this and for that reason they are determined to stop him.

Resident GOP-e urged us to be patient, to get them the congress, both houses ... and, oh the places we would go!

Well, here we are with their Whigs used to being a comfortable minority, unwillng to support our president, spineless cuckservatives who would do us all a favor if they all went home and hanged themselves en masse.

Gorsuch is excellent, and he certainly raises the grade. But this is not what we elected Republicans to do.

The Republicans replaced the Whigs because the Whigs would not take a stand on the key issues of teh day. Well, they did such a good job of replacing the Whigs that they have become the Whigs.

Their only principle is to have no principles.
Their only strategy is preemptive surrender.
Their only plan for victory is to pee off their base as much as they can.

The Republican Party is no vehicle for conservatism.

The republican party is the ultimate big govt party. Lincoln was the start of it. What a disaster the GOP has always been. It doesn’t care about much except helping the super rich get their way. That’s the origin of the GOP. The rhetoric is for southern conservative voters. They like big govt, they live off of it. Lets drain the swamp, even if it means the Gop loses seats.

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are doing cartwheels celebrating the trillion $ spending bill to fund the federal government through 9/17. It’s a Democrat wish list presented to them by our GOP weasels in the House & Senate.

It locks in most of the bad deals Obama set up and will be hard to change thereafter when Trump tries to set his own budget and agenda. This, the ObamaCare failure and the proposed tax bill, cuts without reform and simplification, sets we conservatives up for losses in 11/2018 and a Democrat president in 11/2020. Trump better veto it or we are doomed.

I’ve voted too many times republican by holding my nose. This sabotage of our Trump election will make me never vote again and pull down the US flag I fly at home.

I’ve completely lost all faith in the GOP. Far too many of them are simply much too timid to pass anything that amounts to a bold stand. I wonder how those eunuchs can manage sitting to pee with their tails so firmly held between their legs.

This crop of GOPers is completely useless. The election of Trump gave the Repubs a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to roll back the progressive tide in this country and they’re instead giving away the store... again. I despise people like that who possess no courage.

Yes, Republicans suck ...
But they don’t suck as bad as Democrats do.

And unfortunately that's as good as it's ever going to get.

Conservatives had concerns that President Trump isn't a conservative.
But we knew that going into the election and Hillary would have been worse than Obama.

But the president isn't the problem.
The real problem is the pseudo-conservatives, RINOs and GOPe in congress.

Look at the mess republicans have made of President Trump's first 100 days.

After 7 years of pretending they wanted to roll back Obamacare they should have had several very good plans written and ready to go.

Instead Ryan comes out with that hastily put together monstrosity that was doomed from the start.

Now we get this patched together budget extension that even Obama would be proud of.
