It may well be that Upton caused the demise of the incandescent light bulb and forced us to use CFLs for a time, but this new generation of LED bulbs is a major advancement in illumination, power consumption and life. They are now offering them in a number of color temperatures so they provide illumination identical to the incandescent bulbs they replaced. We have a modern home that uses mostly R-30 and R-40 recessed fixtures. We went all in and just junked the incandescent bulbs and replaced them all, and the electricity savings is substantial. A 75 watt R30 uses about 15 watts, you do the math. The other thing that’s nice is that they don’t produce much heat so you don’t have to aircon your place to take out that waste heat.
I haven't found any like that. Real incandescents are almost at the candle-flame frequency. I haven't experienced any LEDs that didn't produce the operating-room effect. I don't mind that on my finger-sized pocket flashlight, but it feels awful in our dining room.
Any specs on a brand that has light as warm as a regular 75-watt GE incandescent?
