The White House insisted Tuesday that the $1 trillion spending bill includes money for 40 miles of border fencing, as President Trump sought to shore up Republican voters by saying the deal also lays the groundwork for rebuilding the military.
The president said there is “enough money to make a down payment on the border wall,” and said a $15 billion boost in defense spending — without having a dollar-for-dollar match in domestic spending — has set a new standard that will benefit Republicans and the Pentagon.
“This is what winning looks like,” Mr. Trump said.
Republicans bristled after Democrats declared victory on the spending bill Monday, saying they had won every major fight by keeping money flowing to Planned Parenthood and sanctuary cities, boosting spending for the National Endowment for the Arts, bailing out Puerto Rico’s troubled Medicaid system, expanding college aid for poor students and preserving the Environmental Protection Agency’s budget.
“We have more money now for the border than we’ve gotten in 10 years,” said Mr. Trump. “The Democrats didn’t tell you that. They forgot.”

The media may have you twitching, but know that President Trump pulled a fast one on the democrats. It was an awesome tactic to get immediate money for spare parts and munitions for the military. With a potential conflict looming, the military was desparate for both. The democrats always raid the spare parts account to weaken our military. It started with Carter. The modern military runs on spare parts.
A bonus was the money President Trump was going to need anyway for the non-wall improvements.
The same tactic can be used over and over again with ever increasing results. This was a great test run.

WHEN the real WALL is built this joke will have to be torn down - a total waste of money.
If Congress can’t do what Trump promised they should put up a two foot plastic ‘fence’ and save money. It would be just as ‘effective’... or maybe a string on the ground...

I thougt this was the part funded under obama. Waiting for clarification because it was reopted as a no funds for trumps border wall. I think another free per already debunked this one.

The legislation for the interstate highway system was called the: National Interstate and Defense Highways Act of 1956.
Why can’t Trump designate the wall as necessary and part of the national defense/national security of the United States and use defense department funds to build it?

If this fence is just to 'save money' put a red string on the ground and tell Americans it 'will work'... It would save more money than this fence AND string's so cheap they could do the whole border for a few thousand dollars. Citizens can donate yarn to the cause. Why just be a little insulting to the American People when you can go all the way?

Sure, better than nothing but the same kind of fence the illegals have regularly been cutting through. And it is a fiction that the GOP had to compromise on this at all—as surely the Dems themselves would not have, had they majorities in all three houses.
