I doubt that anyone is "erasing" anything, but it is fading away as most things do.

True. People down there know where they came from, but apart from the tourist business, it's a little like Dutch or the Huguenots or the Scots in New York or South Carolina or North Carolina. Not exactly like that because it happened more recently, but they're Brazilians and they aren't looking to restore the Confederacy.
