It's going to take much more money to keep Chicago's schools open through June than previously revealed, top Emanuel budget aide Carole Brown says.
The Chicago Public Schools actually need $596 million to keep schools open the rest of the school year, and not just the $129 million officials have publicly discussed, a top aide to Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Tuesday.
...
Brown said all options are on the table to find the cash needed to stave off an early closing of schools that CPS CEO Forrest Claypool has warned might be needed but that Emanuel has ruled out to preserve the longer school year that cost the mayor a teachers strike to achieve.
Brown wouldnt even rule out another tax increase in addition to the $250 million already imposed for teacher pensions and the $45 million for school construction.
But she said that would not solve the need for an immediate cash infusion.
...
Other possibilities include: taking a bridge loan from tax-increment financing districts that might never be repaid; another round of borrowing; more cuts of school support staff; delayed payments to CPS vendors; and a request to the Chicago Teachers Pension Fund to delay part of the $721 million payment thats due June 30.

That’s almost $100,000,000.00 a week.
CPS and the CTU should be charged under RICO for organized child abuse.

It never ends with these people. “Public Employees” have the worst entitlement mentality of any group there is, anywhere.
Me too. I need 596 million, not the $163 dollars I budget.
The department of education is really just Luca Brazi the enforcer and bag man. They have managed to raise the cost of education top to bottom by 3,000 percent since 1978.
“delayed payments to CPS vendors; “
The $467 between the $129 budgeted and the $596 million owed is the result of not paying vendors. It is accounts payable
They haven’t been paying their bills
Public employee unions in collusion with politicians will bankrupt our cities (and states).

Not “will.”
“Are.”
Sounds like Chicago needs a Democrat to straighten things out.
Lol..
Suckers, keep voting for the same old same old.
For that extravagant amount of money, Chicago public schools must deliver a first class education.
Hahahaaaaa. Great management job there, LIB/DIM “leaders”. Hahahahaaa. For the children, I guess. Incompetent criminal “educators”.
I totally agree. They are all crooks.
