Higher consumer spending has helped to boost growth in the economy Germany's economy grew strongly in the first three months of this year, driven by investment and consumption, official figures show.
First-quarter GDP growth was 0.6%, faster than the October-to December 2016 figure of 0.4%.
Household and state spending were strong, while firms invested money in construction and equipment, said German statistics authority Destatis.
Foreign trade also helped, as exports increased faster than imports.

I believe you. But isn’t good growth like 3 percent or more?
I am no financial genius so I could be misreading the data terribly wrong. Likely :)
Gotcha.
Good or Germany :)
Exactly right.
Remember Sowell's three golden questions, including "Compared to what?"
Yes, compared to the miserable (annualized!) growth of 0.4% in the last quarter of 2016, growth has now risen by FIFTY PERCENT!
To a somewhat less-miserable 0.6% per annum.
Compared to long-term trends, the German economy is just limping along.
Regards,
I’ll happily take 0.6% GDP quarterly growth along with record low unemployment, balanced federal budget and record trade surplus.
You need to show me a single news item of people in Germany complaining about the economy. Let alone being somewhat miserable.
The Germans make stuff that people want to buy. They abhore debt. Tzey pay in cash for big ticket items. They have 6 weeks paid vacation.
Their federal government surplus last round was 25 billion. Merkel says they’ll use the surplus to pay down the miniscule federal debt. Some Commie politicians want to use the surplus to expand gov’t but Merkel bitch slapped them down.
She WAS a commie!!
Worked with the State as a teen.
Obviously she took to capitalism quite well :)
Good for her and Germany!!
I thought they were so much more of a socialist state than us? Obviously not.
Protectionism works.
it’s funny they say they are semi-socialist but I observe in many respects they are (slightly) more free market than us.
drain our swam p
I wish them well.
