Why Russia Can’t Be America’s Ally: What Putin Doesn’t Want You to Know About Moscow’s Persecution o
Providence Magazine ^ | 12 May 17 | George Barros

Recently within the American conservative and Christian zeitgeists I have noticed a growing positive view of Vladimir Putin and desire for a U.S.-Russia Christian military alliance against Islamic terrorism. As both a conservative Christian American and a policy specialist on Russia and Eastern Europe, this is a perilous line of thinking. The growing trend among conservatives to support Putin’s Russia is problematic because Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) engage in activities that run directly contrary to U.S. national security objectives, values of Western civilization writ large, and teaching of Christian scripture.

Perceptions that Russia is a defender of Christendom in an increasingly secular world are not based in reality. Any discussion concerning the relationship between Christianity and Russia cannot fail to take into consideration the Russian Orthodox Church, which dominates practically all aspects of Christianity in Russia.

Load of crap. Saying they interfere with US interests. The problem is that our interests are supporting Sunni theocracy, expanding nato directly up to Russias border. Demanding access to their people for our NGOs to start destabilization efforts, and demanding they kiss the western bankers ring. Oh, and also they must “freely” install a western puppet as leader.

In short, our leaders are bond villains wanting world domination, and only need a cat to stroke.

Russian support for anti-American Iran and support for their atomic bomb and missile should tell us all we need to know about Putin’s “friendship” to the West.

They, in turn, would point to America's support of (and promotion of) the Saudi regime and its repulsive ideology of Sunni Wahabbism.

Russia also has very good relations with Saudi Arabia.

The attitude that what Trump likes is ok and acceptable can get you into trouble. NO, Russia is not our “friend”.

Some folks forget that Islam is an officially recognized religion in Russia along with Russian Orthodox Christianity and other faiths. While the U.S. has 3.3 million Muslims constituting 1% of the population, Russia has nearly 10 million Muslims constituting 6% of the population.

“Islam is considered as one of Russia’s traditional religions, legally a part of Russian historical heritage.
Muslims constitute the majority nationalities in the North Caucasus regions residing in the states between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea: Tatars, Circassians, Balkars, Chechens, Ingush, Kabardin, Karachay, and numerous Dagestani peoples. Also, in the middle of the Volga Basin reside populations of Bulgars and Bashkirs, the vast majority of whom are Muslims. There are over 5,000 registered religious Muslim organizations (divided into Sunni (including Sufi) and Shia groups), which is over one sixth of the number of registered Russian Orthodox religious organizations.”—Wikipedia

Honest question, what has Britain ever done for the US?

The time to befriend Russia was immediately after the collapse of the USSR.

The Russian people were ready to turn the page.

Instead America and NATO kept acting as if we were still deep in the cold war.

We let NATO put the squeeze on Russia by picking up their former satellite countries and moving missile batteries to their borders.

That just fed their inherent national paranoia and now we are back at loggerheads with each other again.

History seems to be repeating itself, today. We have not learned a thing.

That may be true but he’s a Christian who is selling Saudi Arabia $10 billion worth of weapons and he’s a Christian who is building two nuclear power plants in Iran. The Pope hasn’t done that.

Some of us learned, but the larger problem is the history of that period is not being taught, or simply being brushed over in a few paragraphs - worse, most when told the actual history refuse to believe it, relying on what some person, personage, novel, or TV show told them as history.
