GROVE CITY Security will be tight for Grove City College commencement Saturday, the colleges president said this week.
Although the college has had high-profile speakers previously, having a sitting vice president on campus offers a whole new set of requirements.
We will have a much more secure situation than what weve ever had before, GCC President Paul J. McNulty said.
The college plans to have commencement outside in the quad at 10 a.m. Saturday for 606 graduates the largest class in the schools history with tickets required for family/friends and credentials for media, he said.
There have been less than two dozen mostly regional requests from media for credentials, McNulty said.
For security, the college will rent portable fencing to place around the edge of the quad, he said. Visitors who are not attending the ceremony wont be able to stand outside of the fence to hear Pence. The U.S. Secret Service will create a buffer by blocking off/securing gaps between buildings surrounding the quad, McNulty added.
Those with permission will pass into the secure area through metal detectors, he said.
Students and their families were expected to receive instructions to arrive early to get through the metal detectors as well as any possible change of venue plans in case of inclement weather, he said.
McNulty said if the ceremony stays in the quad, the logistics will be much easier. However, if it moves to the Physical Learning Center, which housed commencement last year due to inclement weather, there will be some challenges.
McNulty said the college cannot release information about Pences arrival on Air Force 2 or his motorcade route, but he said he could say that the motorcade will arrive right before commencement.

My son graduated from GCC in 2012, commencement speaker was Dr. Walter Williams.
Hey, I was there on that day, my Daughter graduated that same year.
How’s your son doing nowadays?
Odd that no similar headlines ever seem to appear when a libtard visits a college/university/indoctrination center.
Is there something to be noted here, perhaps?
please give him very tight strong security at this speech.
He’s doing great! He’s a computer engineer and he designs/programs sensors. Married a girl he met there and fortunately, they were both from NC. They have one child, 2 next month. LOVE GCC however, so glad to be done with the drive. It’s a long way from NC.
How’s your daughter doing?
The small company (well, the office here is small) has been so impressed with my GCC grad, they’ve hired TWO more. Said son was better qualified as a jr (he also interned there) than the NCSU engineering grads. The Engineering program may be small but it is excellent.
I was just up the road at Allegheny in the late 70’s, and Grove City at the time was a very good Christian school.
I live there and won’t be there. Some things are more important, like a Little League scrimmage. I hear that the protesters will be imported from a nearby liberal town - Slippery Rock. The real locals will be harassing them.
Friend that lives there was saying Slippery Rock was sending a protest crew. What a shame that these goof balls will ruin the day for those graduating and their families.
And they don’t take Federal Money.
Slippery Rock is an unimpressive school, plus the water there has so much limestone in it we called it “liquid tombstone.”
My daughter graduated with a degree in International Business with a Finance Major. The great thing about the school is they REALLY TEACH YOU SKILLS THE BUSINESS WORLD NEEDS.
She became so good at using Excel and Microsoft Access that she was hired as a financial analyst by a major PR company after graduation.
She currently works as a Senior Financial Analyst for the International Finance division of JP Morgan Chase in NYC.
She has contacts with all of the classmates in her batch. ALL of them found good jobs within 6 months of graduation.
Yes, son had a job at Spring Break, unlike daughter who graduated last May. She just completed her first month of employment. She got her first paycheck and said, “I’ve never gotten a paycheck with a comma in it before!” LOL. Daughter majored in Illustration at SCAD. I should clarify that there really wasn’t much available here in her field and she did work part-time as an art teacher at one of those places where you drink wine and paint pictures.
