Trump delays move of US embassy to Jerusalem

President Trump will not yet move the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem -- at the least postponing an oft-repeated campaign pledge -- however, the White House said Thursday the delay was only in the interest of serving a possible peace deal and the move would happen eventually.

Trump signed the Jerusalem Recognition Act Waiver on Thursday morning, officially delaying the move of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv.

“No one should consider this step to be in any way a retreat from the President's strong support for Israel and for the United States-Israel alliance,” the White House said in a statement. “President Trump made this decision to maximize the chances of successfully negotiating a deal between Israel and the Palestinians, fulfilling his solemn obligation to defend America's national security interests. But, as he has repeatedly stated his intention to move the embassy, the question is not if that move happens, but only when.”

A senior administration official told Fox News the White House was optimistic peace was possible in the long-running and seemingly unsolveable conflict, which has perplexed numerous administrations.

All parties in the region were notified the President would sign the waiver.

Also saying and doing takes time. You have to find or build a building, then secure it then add electronic stuff ... it’s involved.

There is no peace deal to be had. Abbas has already stated what he wants and it is a nonstarter. Split the Christian capital of Jerusalem conceding parts of Judeah and Sumeah to the miscreant terrorists?

WTF is Trump thinking!? Stick with your campaign promise and move the embassy to Israel’s capital! Why do we have embassies in every country’s capital in which we have embassies but continue not to recognize the capital of Israel!!

There is taking time in doing. He has added a condition in there that wasn’t there prior.

It has nothing to do with finding a building. I predicted all along that no President will make that move unilaterally. Congress included the wavier in the 1995 US Embassy Act knowing full well that no move can be made until the status of Jerusalem is decided.

If the truth be known, Israel doesn’t want the unilateral move to Jerusalem. No country accredited to Israel has its embassy in Jerusalem.

The embassy move is unfortunately an unwise provocation, IMO. Yes, I suppose it would be a symbolic move. There is essentially zero logic nor history to any sort of Arab claim to Jerusalem but the move would incite massive violence because for no fathomable reason, Arabs regard J as one of their holy cities. They just do. It may very well be that their claim of it being a “holy city” is little more than the stick in the eye it represents to Judaism and Christianity, but that’s the way it is.

Since the President turned his foreign policy, military, and intelligence services over to the same CFR gang as past administrations, of course something like the embassy move gets a veto from them. Clinton, Bush, and Obama also made the same ‘peace deal’ argument at the behest of the State Department.

“And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.”

Correct! And you’ll be hard pressed to find ANY mention of a people calling themselves Palestinians in the early 1900s. Funny how these made up PLO political tools were the creation of Jordan and terrorist organizations utilized as a political hammer to continue conflicts

Jerusalem has always been the center of Israel. Maybe it’s time to go ahead and put our embassy there; be the first one to do it and then maybe other countries will follow. Well we know France and the UK won’t.

Israel should go tell the world that Jerusalem is theirs, always was and always will be.
