A Chinese copy of a Russian airplane? Flown by third world pilots, who got their pilot’s licenses on the internet. The baggage handlers and mechanics are from Qutar!

What could possibly go wrong?.

The plane, a Chinese-made Y-8,

...

It seems to be a widely used aircraft in service for decades.

After it disappeared they eventually found the wreckage. Happens all the time.

Antonov sure has a thing for glass noses.

So sorry for the victims and their families.

“Antonov sure has a thing for glass noses.”

They’re all designed with military applications in mind. The glass nose figures in that somehow.

It was very useful in World War II. Since then....dunno.

I think of the IL-76, for example. Maybe with that big of a plane, it helps give visual reference when landing.

Ilyushin likes it too. Must be a Russian thing; perhaps of days gone by.

Yes, I wish countries would stop changing their names.

Tell me about it. I produce a podcast about Southeast Asian history, and Myanmar/Burma is the hardest country in the region to talk about, in part because of all the name changes.

How about this one: the next time you're in an Asian restaurant, try ordering Crab Naypyidaw (Rangoon's not the capital anymore).
