Trump's "tapes" tweet prompted Comey to leak memos

Fired FBI Director James Comey is now in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee to testify about his interactions with President Trump as they relate to the federal government's Russia probe — and there's been some significant revelations thus far.

A big thing: Comey refused to state whether he believed that President Trump's request to shut down the investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn amounted to obstruction of justice — saying it was a question for the investigation's special counsel Bob Mueller — but he called it "a very disturbing thing, very concerning."

Another big thing: After his firing and this Trump tweet, Comey asked a close friend of his — Columbia law professor Daniel Richman — to leak the content of his memos to the media with the hope of triggering the appointment of a special counsel.

There will be a lot coming out over the next few days. But this one grabbed my attention.

This shows that Comey is willing to leak memos.

Possibly Comey has been the source of many many leaks in the past.

“And over-and-over again, they did say there was no credible threat that they had found. And they said that right through the election, and the next administration reiterated that. Over and over again when we asked, we were told there was no actual threat that they knew of,” Merrill said.

Asked if there were any private briefings for state election officials on possible Russian interference prior to the November 2016 voting, Merrill said, “No. We were not briefed on any of that. We were not told in advance.” Merrill also claimed the Obama administration failed to take state officials aside about a potential or real Russian threat to election machinery.

“That’s right, because I don’t really think there was one,” she said.

You know I would investigate this Columbia Law professor for leaking other information to the media that might have been classified. He has to be, at a minimum, a suspect in leaks to the media as a result of Comey’s testimony today.

Has Comey been asked about who has the copy of the memo that was allegedly leaked?

One of the most ridiculous angles to that story is that they were "leaked" by having some dude -- probably the Columbia jackass -- read them over the phone to reporters. The failure of any media outlet to get a copy of this so-called memo before running with the story is very telling, and tells us all that the media doesn't even have minimal standards for journalism anymore.

So President Trump issues a Twitter message suggesting that their conversations might have been recorded, and his response is to have a friend of his read a copy of an alleged memo -- whose existence no media outlet who reported on it even verified -- that was allegedly prepared by Comey after one of his meetings with the President?

In other words, Comey felt it was necessary to jump out there and release the memo and damage Trump before Trump released tapes that would damage Trump.
