Trump backs permanent snooping powers he once criticized as abusive

Just months after President Trump complained about being spied on by the Obama administration, his administration is embracing a full permanent extension of the secret snooping powers the government used to track conversations between his campaign aides and Russian operatives.

Mr. Trump’s intelligence and counterterrorism team said Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act has saved hundreds of lives by preventing terrorist attacks and insisted — despite Mr. Trump’s claimed experiences — that the law is not being abused.

“Simply put, the use of this authority has helped save lives,” Thomas P. Bossert, President Trump’s top counterterrorism adviser, wrote in an op-ed in The New York Times, announcing support for a bill introduced this week making the snooping powers permanent. Without congressional action, Section 702 is set to expire on Dec. 31.

More national security overreach. Never mind the Fourth Amendment.

Donald, you were right the first time.

FISA renewal should be done only for six months at a time and conditioned on criminal prosecution of those who abused its powers.

We are supposed to ignore this and look at the lists of all the great things he’s doing instead. Everything is awesome.

FISA operates on “general” warrants, which the Fourth Amendment prohibits.

That’s what they keep telling us. And DACA. Don’t forget DACA was going to be gone day 1.
If we can’t criticize our own and hold their feet to the fire we’re as bad as the Dems.

Ummm - if I remember correctly Trump was always a bit evasive in regards to Dreamers. Am I wrong. I think we knew this one going into the election.

Or worse a “troll”.
Sophomoric behavior from the loyalists. Trump is eons better than any other choice, but when he’s wrong, he’s wrong.

The DEMAND for purity damned near destroyed our country which is why we abandoned it just in the 11th hour before we fell into a permanent gray socialist abyss.

This is why I despise the press.

Obama has little old ladies tied to their seats under the “wheelchair safety act.”

Trump signs off on maintaining the wheelchair safety act.

Now Trump is a hypocrite for giving Obama a hard time over tying little old ladies to their seats.

Pricks.

So, how is the DEMAND for IMPURITY working out so far?

There is, of course, a difference between justified criticism and sophomoric ‘I told you so’ behavior.

True, which is why avoid going down that road. I hope you don’t think my post came across that way.

It’s why Obama got elected twice.
We’re in a fallen world and there are always going to be compromises unfortunately.

It did not.

Some of the others on the thread may be threatening that, but nothing aimed at you.
