Gingrich unloads on special counsel Robert Mueller: 'The tip of the deep state spear aimed at' Trump
Business Insider ^ | 6-15-2017 | Allan Smith

Posted on 06/15/2017 10:13:59 AM PDT by blam

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, one of President Donald Trump's top allies, went after special counsel Robert Mueller in a Thursday morning tweetstorm, calling the former FBI director "the tip of the deep state spear aimed at" Trump.

Gingrich posted his tweets after The Washington Post reported Wednesday night that Mueller's investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian officials now expanded to include a probe into whether Trump committed obstruction of justice with his firing of former FBI Director James Comey last month.

Mueller is also seeking proof of whether Trump associates committed financial crimes.

"Should now be clear Mueller is the 'anti-Trump special counsel,'" Gingrich tweeted.

The former House speaker wrote that Mueller "is setting up a dragnet of obstruction, financial questions and every aspect of Trump's life and his associates lives." Very dangerous," he wrote, saying it's clear following the Post's story that Mueller is "the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency."

"The brazen redefinition of Mueller's task tells you how arrogant the deep state is and how confident it is it can get away with anything," he added.

Gingrich's posts came as Trump himself blasted out tweets on the Post's story.

"They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story," he wrote. "Nice."

Trump added that the investigation was "the single greatest WITCH HUNT" in US political history and is being led "by some very bad and conflicted people!"

Gingrich's tweets marked a coming of full circle in an effort by some of Trump's most prominent allies to delegitimize the Mueller-led investigation.

Fire Mueller.

This is a coup against Trump.

There is no evidence but Mueller will manufacture evidence.

This is sedition and treason by Mueller and comey and the media .

The penalty for treason is death by hanging

Gingrich is right (and I wish he had an important position in the Trump admin, because he’s very smart and also tough). I don’t see how it’s even legal for Mueller to go wandering along, far off the path of the original “investigation,” just picking and choosing any little side trips that seem like they might drag the process out and confuse even more people.

As if it takes an "effort" by "allies" to "delegitimize" the "investigation".

Russia fell apart
Collusion fell apart
Why not throw in obstruction.
Heck, why not shoot Republican leaders when nothing else works.

The Democrats have evolved into pure evil.

Trump should just cite the obvious conflicts of interest and fire Mueller and continue with MAGA. The Democrats will end up making themselves look even worse than they already do and Trump will look like he’s focused on MAGA despite their nonsense. Trump might consider replacing Rod Rosenstein too since he is the one that picked Mueller ion the first place. I would sure want to know why he made that choice.

Doesn’t an investigation need to be legitimate to then be delegitimized?

Might depend on the definitions of “recently”, “praise” and the specific topic area.....all hard to keep up with during this obnoxious onslaught.

It will take some time, I’m afraid, but this will totally vindicate President Trump and democrat hopes will be dashed and most Americans will realize the evil the rats tried to get away with; that is, if they don’t already! The Georgia election next week will be very telling.

An investigation in search of a crime to investigate. We’ve all seen many times how this will proceed. They will go fishing with all the resources of the Federal government. They will gin up a very thin case against some minor nobody with some very loose connection to Trump. They will threaten to file or actually file some vastly overblown charges and then promise that everything will go away if the person just comes up with something against Trump.

Our side needs to push the fact that Mueller is too close to Comey and should recuse himself. Mueller was a “bi-partisan” choice but the REPe is no friend of Trump and would be quite content to see him impeached and replaced by VP Pence, one of them.

Why is Mueller not fired yet? Why is Rosenstein not fired yet? Why has Sessions not resigned?

Stop trying to make the Democrats like you. They're never going to like you, Mr. Trump. Pull off the band-aid, take care of business and get back to work. The clock is ticking.

Rosenstein's Justice Department picked Mueller.

Yup. Smith@businessinsider.com thinks the "investigation" is legitimate.

And Smith complains about Trump's "ally" Newt defending Trump, but nowhere in his op-ed does he say that Mueller the so-called investigator, is an ally of Comey.

Fire Mueller. This is a coup against Trump.

Then he should fire Rod Rosenstein, the idiot who appointed Mueller, and probably Jeff Sessions for recusing himself into a lame duck Attorney General.
