The F-16 had tried to approach the aircraft carrying the defence minister even though it was flying over neutral waters, agencies said today, before a Russian Sukhoi-27 turned up to warn it off.
Shoigu was reported to be en route to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad for a meeting to discuss how well Russia's western flank was defended.
In dramatic footage appearing to show the incident unfolding, a Sukhoi-27 can be seen flying between an F-16 and another plane before tilting its wings. The F-16 then seems to fly off.

some very sinister people in US military are doing everything possible to create hostilities between Russia and us.
I’m not getting the risk/reward calculation that says it’s OK to have these kinds of encounters.
Only a matter of time before young hotshot pilots on both sides confident of their skills, equipment and invulnerability start shooting at each other. Someone has to clearly explain how american involvement in this Mideast quagmire and war with Russia enhances the security of the American people
I think the headline sounds much more dire than the video actually shows.
No evidence that this is a US F-16. Some NATO countries in Europe fly them.
Agreed, “showing his weapons” looks a LOT like banking away...
It sure does look that way. And what about NATO? What the *ell are they doing in Syria, which hasn't attacked a member nation? This is while they're being over-run by an invasion force. Why would they want to create a situation that will make that problem worse?
There's stuff going on that has nothing to do with keeping us little folk safe or even alive.
this isn’t hollywood. aerial encounters between combat aircraft are tightly controlled by the respective command and control structure on both sides — russian pilots have almost no autonomy at all.
if they started shooting, it would be because their “masters” wanted them to, not because the pilot had a chubby.

It’s just another gaslighting Russian fairy tale. Don’t be so gullible and America hating.

Nothing he said was America hating.
George Soros and James T. Hodgkinson are both American citizens, but hating what THEY do is not America hating.
// Only those who live near streams or bodied of water will have water //
That is one reason why I bought my house on property that has 5 streams.
NATO aint the only one’s with F-16s.
Well over a thousand of those birds sold to every paying customer on the planet.
I agree wholeheartedly.
I believe Trump has allowed his generals far too much latitude to decide how to conduct themselves in every geography...except where we are engaged in active military operations.
He needs to dictate policy.
Yes, it is a nothing-burger.
It isn’t an oh-my-gawd event.
People that feel these types of intercepts are flown by pilots itching to start a war. . .those people feeling like that are ignorant when it comes to intercepts.
For key-rist sakes, if a pilot fires without meeting ROE, he will be tried and convicted by the time he lands, and then sent direct to jail. Oh yeah, something every fighter pilots live for. . .
A few years back the Chinese flew too close to a P-3 and had a mid-air collision with our aircraft. . .not on purpose but because their “best” fighter pilots are only mediocre (at best).
When it comes to the Russians, intercepts are standard and demonstrate we are alert and know where they are. . .and they do the same with us.
We fly finger-tip within 3’ of each other when flying a formation flight. . .and if engaged in a dissimilar formation flight, like an intercept the space between jets is relatively huge.
No fighter pilot wants to lose his jet by doing something bone-headed stupid like running into a large aircraft or its fighter escort or shooting them. If the pilot scrapes paint he will be lucky to remain flying and look like a fool, and if he shoots the intercepted jet, the pilot will look like a huge idiot. . .oh, and he may not survive the encounter and if he does, he is headed to prison.
Most fun is during an intercept is to sneak-up on the bad guys and then appear right next to them. Fun times.
“Oh-my-gawd” any person that feels fighter pilots are itching to start shooting is nonsense and makes plain the person saying that is not a fighter pilot and has never flown an intercept and takes his lead from Hollywood movies.
The Greeks and Turks are the one’s you need to watch. Look ‘em up on youtube.
To repeat, intercepts are standard since the early 1950’s, are done to show the bad guys they are in our sights, and we also spoil photographs (having a US jet in the shot is fun).
You are very wise. It is the little things that kill you. Take falling for instance, no one has ever been killed fro falling, no matter what the distance. It is always that sudden stop at the end that does the damage. It is the little things , like pulling up to a stop sign and failing to look both to the right and left before proceeding. And once your entire vehicle is in the traffic land, here comes the tractor trailer doing about 60 mph and you end up holding a daisy.

Appears you don’t think too highly of our fighter pilots?
