-- It seems the "relationship" part of the order is pretty vague... --

Yep. And I think SCOTUS was damn snarky about timing of hearing the cases on th emerits too.

To begin, we grant both of the Government's petitions for certiorari and consolidate the cases for argument. The Clerk is directed to set a briefing schedule that will permit the cases to be heard during the first session of October Term 2017. (The Government has not requested that we expedite consideration of the merits to a greater extent.)

The government would have no reason to request expediting, if the stays below had been lifted.

After issuing this rationale for delay, SCOTUS proceeds to impose a vague standard for allowing and denying entry.

Duplicitous institution, just like Congress.

I have understood that the president has all the authority to do as Trump requested...

Should not the SC have acknowledged that authority??? Or am I mistaken about that???

The reality is that the Courts have inserted themselves into that question. The SC did not acknowledge that authority, it legitimized the questioning of the authority, and it did NOT take difference with the rationale used by the Circuit Courts, which was literally "because Trump issued the order." If Hillary had issued EXACTLY THE SAME ORDER, the federal courts would have upheld it.

They sure would’ve...

I’m surprised the SC, with the addition of Gorsuch, didn’t completely overrule the lower court’s obvious political decision...
