I hope this is the reality of what Erdogan senses now. We will shortly know by his actions.
He will still be Erdogan the Islamist. That is his mindset. But he will find that the rest of the world does not share it.
We shall see.
All Islamists understand is punishment. The alpha must always dominate and punish the dominated. That is the universal language, but lost in the West since WW2.

In March 2011 the largest gathering of international Muslim Brotherhood members (Ikhwan al-Muslimun) in more than fifty years congregatged in Istanbul to attend the funeral of Turkish politician Necmettin Erbakan (1926-2011).
The invitations were sent out by Erdogan, a noted Muslim Brother who has for years given asylum to Ikhwan. He continues to do so, and he (along with the Thani family of Qatar) makes no apology for the enduring relationship.
