Well, the US courts would be most eager to give a blessing to Islamic practices, and Hebrew Israelites would get less preferential treatment.
But, truly, we’ve thrown out the basic standard of one man, one woman. Now there is no standard. I see no legal justification to block polygamy and I think it is just a matter of time before a court says it’s OK. Perhaps the Mormons will get it first — might be an easier “sell”. But Islam will have polygamy in the US soon enough.
And child marriage? Again, I’m not sure how effectively it can be blocked since “freedom of religion” is a trump card for anyone who is not a Christian. If the Koran says child sex is OK, then it’s OK. On the other hand, if the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, then the Bible is hate speech.
