Panda Express Fined $600,000 for Unfair Treatment of Non-U.S. Workers

Panda Express has reached a settlement agreement with the U.S. Justice Department to resolve an investigation into whether the restaurant discriminated against non-U.S. citizens when reverifying their permission to work.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the investigation concluded that Pandra Express required lawful permanent resident workers to re-establish their work authorization when their green cards expired yet made no such requests to U.S. workers when their work verification documents expired.

Under the agreement, Panda Express will pay a civil penalty of $400,000 and establish a $200,000 back pay fund to compensate workers who lost employment due to the company’s practices. The impacted workers were let go beginning in May 2014.

“Employers should ensure that their reverification practices comply with laws that protect workers against discrimination,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Tom Wheeler of the Civil Rights Division. “The Justice Department applauds Panda Express for its cooperation during this investigation and its commitment to compensating workers who may have lost wages due to its documentary practices.”

They should be paying for the unfair treatment of their customers. That is not food.

Forcing their employees to walk around the mall with a platter of General Tso Chicken samples?

Once you've proven yourself to be a US citizen why the need to re-certify? How many US citizens renounce their citizenship???

OTOH,Green Cards and other provisional work authorizations *can* be revoked. And employers are subject to big fines for employing those without authority to work.

WTF? The DOJ Deep State equates the expiration of a green card with the expiration/renewal of a driving license?

… yet made no such requests to U.S. workers when their work verification documents expired.

My birth certificate has no expiration date. As a U.S. citizen I need no other authorization to work. This is just a DOJ scheme to prevent the enforcement of immigration rules.

Citizens do not have or need authorization to work documents.
Immigrants do.

Illegal aliens don’t have authorization to work.

None of this makes sense. First, once someone has been conformed to be a citizen, why would you need to reverify that? Second, green cards expire? I thought those were for people granted permanent residency.

‘Green cards’ expire, but permanent residency status does not. Once you are a permanent resident, you are a permanent resident forever unless you violate your status. Your ‘green card’ indicating you a permanent resident, may expire, but that does not change your status - you just have to get a new card.

Bingo — I’m thinking this might be a 18 USC 241/242 case against the DOJ.

Right, so why are they being punished for re-verifying legal status? Seems like targeted punishment for something that shouldn’t be illegal.

That’s a hilarious outcome.

Verify, reverify and lacking proof of employment eligibility terminate the employee to mitigate actions by the givernment and “WHAM!”

YOU GOT PUNK’d anyway

Now none of this makes a lick of sense...

1. The green cards...They DONT expire

2. Why would American citizens need documents to enable them to work in their own country ...

3. are these SSN cards for the American citizens ??? They DONT expire...

This is just made up hysteria...

I love Panda Restaurants and Panda Express too.

Yes, you nailed it.

This is total B.S.

There are LibTard lawyers circling places like this trying to game the system.

In this instance, the system seemed more than thrilled to be gamed too.

Just sheer lunacy.

You check them? What? That’s terrible. You didn’t check them? What? That’s terrible.

Either way, here’s your big fat fine.

This is America? Pisses me off something fierce.

This is so wrong. Why should someone who is already verified as a genuine grade A American be required to "re-verify" anything? What do they think, that somebody suddenly stopped being an American citizen?

On the other hand, work authorizations for non-citizens can and do expire. Obviously they need to be re-verified.

We are going to need a second term by President Trump to weed all the corrupt leftists career bureaucrats from the government. And we are going to need to follow that with two terms of President Pence. It is going to take that long to drain this cesspool.
