But now the Post reports, with a front page calling CNN “The Most Busted Name in News” that it was the threat of an eye-watering $100 million lawsuit from Anthony Scaramucci — a Trump ally named in the CNN hit job — that forced the network’s hand into pulling the report. The paper reported that CNN top-dogs feared that a major lawsuit could put a pending media merger with AT&T, currently being examined by the Justice Department, in doubt.
advertisement “The cable network’s coverage of Trump transition team member Anthony Scaramucci came amid federal scrutiny of corporate parent Time Warner’s pending purchase by AT&T — and the widespread belief among media execs that CNN President Jeff Zucker can’t survive a merger,” the Post reported.
The editor’s note published late Friday apologized to Scaramucci by name, but the Post reports that Scaramucci is still considering his options.
“Scaramucci got an unusual public apology but still hired a top Manhattan lawyer to put further pressure on CNN and “look after [his] interests in this matter,” a source told the Post.
The paper also reported that the three employees who resigned did not so much fall on the swords themselves, but were given a sharp shove by management.
“They called them in and said they’d pay out their contracts, but they should leave immediately,” a source told the Post.

As a public company, a lawsuit would be have to be reported in their SEC filings and disclosed to AT&T and TWX does NOT want to screw up the acquisition. Many execs stand to make millions, many new vacation homes and yachts on the line here!
HBO and Warner Brothers in addition to all the Turner cable content. AT&T needs content now that Comcast owns NBC and all.

It all makes sense now. It isn't about Trump at all. It is about Sucker trying to torpedo the merger so he can keep his job.
Time Warner doesn't own Time Warner Cable. On the other hand, AT&T used to own a cable company (TCI, paid $48 Billion) but dumped it (to Comcast for $72 Billion), came up with U-verse, and then bought DirecTv for their final mile (final hundred yards) strategy.

Clown News Network is officially a joke. I mentioned something in the news at work and a co worker asked if it was on the real news or the Clown News Network. I couldn't stop laughing. Once you realize they are a big joke and it's not real news they are quite funny.
We may actually see the kill shot that takes out CNN.
How is what they have done anything other than an attempt at a soft coup? Don’t most coups start with the media?
Liability for defamation and libel is the correction put in place to address precisely this kind of problem.
Hopefully someone decides not to settle and forces them to shut down instead, a la Gawker.
