California no longer will suspend driver's licenses for traffic fines
Los Angeles Times ^ | 6/29/17 | AP

Californians no longer will face losing their driver's licenses because of unpaid traffic fines starting next month.

Gov. Jerry Brown said the punishment doesn't help the state collect unpaid fines and can send low-income people into a cycle of job losses and more poverty.

Why do I have a feeling this has something to do with the illegals? But for now, I guess I won't be paying my fines if I ever get one. Why bother when the morons here won't be enforcing the laws on the books.

Generally, you get more of the behavior that you reward and less of the behavior that you punish.

The unintended consequences will be NOBODY WILL PAY ANY FINES AT ALL!
Thus revenue streams for the cities and counties will dry up quickly........................

If you’re not going to get suspended then why pay ever? And if you don’t have to pay why obey any traffic laws?

Of course they will continue to pursue those with “means”.

They may not lose their license, but they most certainly will lose their freedom.

What happens to people like myself who don’t pay their traffic fines. I read the article and my question was not answered. Here is what I bet on, if I don’t pay my traffic fine the City of Los Angeles will turn it over to a collection agency. If I don’t pay my credit is ruined, so I will pay. The illegals are part of the underground economy and a bad credit report means nothing. Legal residents and citizens must pay, illegals get off scott free.

“Why do I have a feeling this has something to do with the illegals?”

They only want money from white people who are dumb enough to honor the laws, I guess. They might be disappointed as the number of white people who have adopted ghetto ways has dramatically increased.

Careful. Only take that option if you are black or hispanic.

If you are white or asian, they will grind you to dust.

For maybe 10 years now in San Francisco and I think Los Angeles if you’re Mexican pulled over driving with no license you have 25 minutes for your friend to drive to the scene and drive your car away.

others will have their car impounded towed towed for $500 and impounded nightly for something like $70, but Mexican illegals..?

that law doesn’t apply to them.

If the illegals cannot drive, they can’t do at least minimal work, and produce some fee and tax income to CA.

Plus, they will need more welfare.

Forgot to mention, they don’t care if they have a DL; they drive anyway.

So, this is for the partially honest illegals???

I really hope the Victor Davis Hanson writes about this soon.

this is right up his alley.

There is not one California; there are TWO Californias.

I must ask. Are you a member of any protected species of human? The answer should tell you if they will collect fines.

can send low-income people into a cycle of job losses and more poverty..................which is exactly what Jerry Brown wants for all of Americas. Invaders not so much. Must give them all rights to break laws, murder us, get out of prison over and over for major felonies. I read a bit ago that someplace in Cali if you are poor/illegal you don't have to pay fines.

The reason the fines are so high in the first place is money collected from traffic fines is used like tax money, it is used to provide social services to illegal aliens. Since the illegal aliens will not pay ANYTHING, the rest of use will have to pay higher fines. It is a cycle of ever increasing lawlessness and fiscal insanity.

Moonbeam’s daddy government continuing to infantilize the irresponsible jackwagons that drive poorly and can’t show the basic responsibility level of paying for their errors.

Brilliant.

Next step, fines and penalties will be on a sliding scale based on a person’s ability to pay. responsible people will be hit hard while losers and illegal aliens will skate with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
