That is an interesting perspective. An entire I know told me that black patients in her hospital sometimes requested white nurses. I was puzzled and asked why? She said they thought the black or other nurses were given breaks to get into and pass nursing school and were inferior nurses.

I thought this very sad and a good example of the evils of affirmative action. If we just made discrimination illegal all nurses would be assumed equally competent.

If I were an African American nurse or doctor this would really rankle me

It would with me as well. I’m a female engineer, and I always felt like I had to show my graduating GPA (3.85) to show I was capable. The discrimination is certainly unfair against those discriminated against but also everyone that got in on their own merits.
