Thanks, Obama: The U.S. Still Can't Defend Against North Korea Nukes
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 7/6/2017 | Staff

Missile Defense: North Korea's successful test of an intercontinental ballistic missile has everyone talking about missile defense, and the fact that the U.S. doesn't seem to have one that could stop a madman like Kim Jong-un. You can blame antimissile defense Democrats for this.

Shortly after the North Korea test, Politico ran an article pointing out that "the Pentagon and its contractors still haven't figured out how to reliably shoot down an intercontinental ballistic missile."

The Missile Defense Agency did in late May destroy a mock ICBM launched from the Marshall Islands with an interceptor launched from the Vandenberg Air Force B Base in California. But the system has failed in previous heavily scripted attempts.

And MDA director Vice Admiral James Syring told a House committee recently that "I would not say we are comfortably ahead of the threat. I would say we are addressing the threat."

What no one commenting on this troubling gap mentions is why it is there at all. News accounts are quick to point out that $189.7 billion has been spent on missile defense since President Reagan announced his vision in 1983, which is supposed to seem like a lot of money.

But that doesn't tell the whole story.

The truth is that the country would be well ahead of where we are now on missile defense if Democrats — including, most recently, President Obama — hadn't spent the past 30 years trying to derail the project.

Obama slashed missile dense when he came into office.

He seemed to believe he could sweet-talk despots into liking America.

While the Norks have been steadily improving their capability to turn our country to rubble.

See where being “nice” gets ya.

Bill Clinton gave North Korea a green light to go ahead with their offensive nuclear program. Barack Obama not only gave a green light to Iran to do the same, but gave them billions of dollars to fund the program.

These are not actions of naïve people who foolishly believe that if they talk nice to despots, they can convince the despots to embrace the values of freedom, peace, and human dignity. These are the actions of extreme leftists who want to destroy the country by any means possible. Since destroying the country from within is a slow process hampered by strong resistance, it appears that they decided that building up the ability of insane regimes to inflict massive destruction would be a much more effective way of furthering their destructive agenda.

The best defense against North Korean threats is tariffs on Chinese products.

The Clintons along with Jimmy Carter provided North Korea with a few billion dollars and a nuke power plant so the coukd develop a nuke.

Same with Obama and Iran.

If one places his finger over the latest impact point of this N. Korean missile, then draws his finger due east, across Japan proper, where does it pass over? Fukushima. Think of the implications of it landing on the damaged nuke plant.

I certainly have no idea what that snow monkey in N . Korea is up to, but it ain’t good!

I think if you extend that line it goes to LA. Fine with me. Do us a favor, Kim.

Obama slashed missile dense when he came into office and did everything he could to kill it while in office

Obama shut down deployment of missile defense shields in Eastern Europe and Korea.

Obama removed our existing missile defense systems from Korea

Obama enabled nuclear proliferation by terrorist states including Iran and North Korea

Obama enabled Chinese hegemony and military buildup

In effect, Obama killed our missile defense systems and enabled nuclear proliferation and missile development programs by terrorist states. This was not an accident

I’m wondering if we didn’t shoot it down so we could see how far NK has advanced in their abilities. Now the world knows for sure, and Trump can do what he needs to do without much condemnation. And I’d sure like for this action to take place while he’s meeting with Putin later today!

“Thanks 0bama”? What a crock of sheet.

Right from the beginning the Republicans and just about ALL the media joined in the charade that 0bama was a legitimate President, never made an issue of the millions spent to hide his history, and turned a blind eye and a deaf ear to every one of his treasonous and anti-American actions.

In fact the Republicans (with very few exceptions) aided and abetted 0bama at every turn.

Neither 0bama nor his henchwomen could do a thing if the Congress and GOPe wanted it stopped.

C’mon IBD. Man up and start calling a spade a spade.

Thank Clinton and the democRATs for killing off SDI, putting us decades behind where we should be. They took the M out of MAD. I believe it was John F’n Kerry who said, as Senator, that we could turn the program back on “if we needed to.” As if someone could pull ABMs out of their arse. We should havebeen ahead of the threat but here we are.

That headline is meant to be ironic. “Thanks, Obama” is what Obama himself would say to brag about some achievement. Obviously we are not praising him in the editorial for the fact that he left the country vulnerable to attack.

You're utterly wrong.

They are intent on destroying the US and Western civilization.

If he hit Hollywood, or missed entirely but hit San Francisco, (or even Sacramento), then immeasurably for the better...

I have been advocating an NK Missike Shoot-down Policy here at FR for some time. I believe the shipborne Aegis system is quite capable of performing that task.

The advantage of the Aegis system is that it can launch an intercept missile from just a few miles off the Korean Peninsula during the boost phase of a NK missile launch. This is an infinitely easier task than a Star Wars intercept from a continental U.S. based defense system which in fact we don’t yet have.

If Trump gives this the go-ahead he will stall the NK Nuclear ICBM Program which undoubtedly needs more testing before it can be ready to be deployed.

The risk in all of this is the great unknown: What will the NK Idiot do in response?

I know for a fact we had two successful tests whereby a missile blew up an ICBM.

I understand the sarcasm.

Which is why my point remains the same: whatever 0bama and his administration did to America, or failed to do for America could not have happened without a complicit Republican Congress.

The Founders knew full well there would be the occasional rogue Chief Executive. The Congress was clearly derelict in their duty.
