Yes, it seems best to view this in terms of the various billionaires and associated political groups looking out for their own interests first and looking to influence U.S. politicians and political groups accordingly, not necessarily along U.S. partisan lines except as these fit their interests.

Thanks, Whenifhow. One thing I found interesting about that is that it identifies a specific network of journalists and investigators Akhmetshin and Soros have links to. Finding out more about who these are and what role they’ve played would be illuminating. I’m fairly certain the Guardian’s Ben Jacobs is one member of this network.

I think that's the answer, Kushner's disclosure is what triggered this story so there's nothing more they can pursue there. Trump Jr. on the other hand has the email chain they can use to make waves, plus being his father's son he's a more choice target for attacking Trump and the Trump brand.
