Scotus did not define bone fide. Gave examples but no definition. Of course grandparents are bone fide relations.
However...we do have some reference in immigration law but the ban had expanded on that particular range
The Supreme Court grant cert (said it would pick up the matter) and stayed the injunctions in part. Justice Thomas, in his concurring decision, did warn:
The compromise [balancing test in the staying of injunctions in part] also will invite a flood of litigation until this case is finally resolved on the merits, as parties and courts struggle to determine what exactly constitutes a “bona fide relationship”
