General Motors has put six of its cars under review, including its once breakthrough Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, and is evaluating whether to cancel them in the coming years, according to a report from Reuters. The news comes as sales of cars continue to plummet in the U.S. and as consumers increasingly turn to SUVs and pickups.
Besides the Chevrolet Volt hybrid, other vehicles believed to be under consideration for elimination iinclude the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Sonic, according to Reuters. GM spokesman Jim Cain declined to comment on the report. UAW President Dennis Williams said Thursday the union is in ongoing discussions

Same here. Proud owner of a Nissan Frontier, built in Canton, Mississippi. Great vehicle. In fairness, I should note that Mrs. Spook loves her Buick Rendezvous, which we’ve owned for seven years and has provided great service. She already has her eyes set on a Buick Enclave as her “next” car. However, my mechanic tells me to stay away from them because Enclaves have a history of expensive electrical problems.

American Smart cars made no sense. They had to beef them up to meet American safety standards and in doing so made them no more fuel efficient than a Corolla.
American Smart cars are leviathans compared to their European counterparts.

No argument here...It was a huge mistake to bail out Chrysler and GM. I will buy a Ford but not a GM or Chrysler product. My 2004 Lincoln Navigator is going strong at 135,000 miles. Only minor maintenance so far.

I am a die hard mopar guy who buys the occasional ford. I used to buy Japanese cars in the 80s until American cars got their ship together. (The 80s were a wake up call for the big 3)
GM styles in the 50s and 60s were great. I always wanted a 57 Chev Belaire and a 63 stingray fastback. I’d love to shoehorn a Chrysler Hemi into either one of them.
Almost the same here. Swore off Ford for the most part when they axed the Panther & E series platforms, and slapped turbochargers on detuned engines. GM isn’t doing any better by axing any mass market car with a V6 (or more), model by model.
I’d rather go with a Chrysler if need be for a no-compromise V6. GM if they still make any cars with more than a lawnmower I4. Ford only if there’s affordable non-turbo options (rare).
When the import brands start making US-style land yachts(larger sedans, no I4s) for American prices (not kingly sums), I might give them a bit more of my time and attention. About the closest I’ve driven in that category is the 2011 Hyundai Genesis, and that still was a stretch.
Oh, and I hate CAFE with the passion of a thousand suns for putting good cars out of reach. But then I’m just a bit too old fashioned for wanting an actual engine under the hood.
