They have, in this particular case, it was collected by Snopes, who shot it down.
If you look up all the men(7 total) involved in this study, you will see that they all have a long history of being deniers.
Then you can search the study they did. The key words in the search would be New Study GAST. When you do that, you find that it is not published in a science journal but it is published in a bunch of rightwing political websites, such as: PJ Media, New American, The Blaze, Mina, Daily Caller, News Buster, Brietbart, Zero Hedge, Daily Wire, American Thinker, etc.
Snopes is a really bad source to cite, A Soros funded site run by an embezzler and a prostitute. Citing to it is a fail. Its why it exists is to to trick leftists.
It's true that the debate over global surface temperatures is red herring, a false controversy as you say in the later comment. However the idea that these men are "deniers" is a similar red herring. There is legimate scientific debate over models, predictions, 1930's temperature measurements, etc. Lumping it together as denial is a cop-out no matter which side does the lumping.
And if you choose snopes as a reliable authoritative source of Science facts, you have way too much time on your hands, are science deficient and need to choose new hobby.
I suggest collecting baseball cards.
