A US Navy ship fired warning shots at an Iranian patrol boat that came within 150 yards of it in the Persian Gulf.

The Iranian boat is believed to have been operated by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to a defense official familiar with details of the incident. The officials said the Iranian boat approached and came within 150 yards of the USS Thunderbolt, a US Navy patrol ship.

The USS Thunderbolt was accompanied by the USS Vella Gulf, which is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, and two other US Coast guard vessels at the time.

The Iranians did not respond to any warnings from the US ship, including radio calls, firing of flares and five short blasts from the US Navy ship's whistle, which is the internationally recognized communications signal for danger, the officials said.

During 0bama’s regime all they were allowed to do is wave.

“The USS Thunderbolt was accompanied by the USS Vella Gulf, which is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser, and two other US Coast guard vessels at the time.”

We have US Coast Guard ships in the Mediterranean? Is this unusual?

Wager a cup of coffee that the Iranian ship went directly home to change some shorts. They are used to provoking a vessel that is unwilling to defend itself. Now they were given a taste of what would have killed them in seconds, if they didn’t change course.

Arrogant koranimals almost cashed in. Iranian commander just got humiliated in front of the world. Doubt they will pull that stunt again

Something totally fishy about that whole thing. And by chance, the Jap ship hit the captains quarters nearly killing him? Smells.

Not much difference between waving or wasting ammo. When will we just blow the ars holes out of the water? Screw Iran. We could destroy that entire Country in a week.

I don’t think it is unusual. I wonder if it is because the Coast Guard is better trained at doing interdiction, boarding, searching and such. But I have heard we have had them over there.

Why can’t we just blow it out of the water and then say: “ We meant to fire a warning shot, but we missed...”

You know, the incompetent US military...

Nothing fishy about it to me. It reeks of bad luck, poor training and incompetence, but nothing more.

. . . five short blasts from the US Navy ship's whistle, . . .

Followed by "BLAM!"

. . . which is the internationally recognized communications signal for danger

Iran learned the allowed proximity to an American warship.

That’s what they wanted to know.

Not unusual for USCG to be deployed in ‘action zones’..

I like the great writing...noted 2 USS’s and follow up with and two other USCG......

Go ahead, call me anal BUT if this crappy writing doesn’t get pointed out now and again, people forget what REAL writing is like.
