Some Minneapolis restaurants adding fee to fund healthcare
CBS Minnesota ^ | 07/28/2017 | Ann Bartman

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Starting Friday, a number of Minneapolis restaurants will include an extra fee with your meal to fund health care.

Barbette, the Bryant Lake Bowl and the Bird are just a few of Ann Bartman’s restaurants. She’s adding a 3 percent service charge to customer’s checks to offset the rising cost of healthcare for her employees.

It comes to 60 cents for every $20 spent.

Health and dental benefits have been part of Bartman’s business for many years

Black Rock Steak House in Vermont does this. Took six in for dinner one evening, the meal came to $148. I left a $50 dollar tip because the service was great, got to the checkout and she charges me another$30 surcharge. Never ever going back.

The state of Minnesota has completely gone off the rails. A rental car company once asked if I wanted to buy carbon credits after showing me what they charged if you didn’t filler up upon return. And to think that FM radio stations used to advertise drug paraphernalia in the 70’s

I sure wouldn’t eat there. I already pay for my own health care and as we all know, our fees supplement those who supposedly can’t afford it.

I sure don’t want to help pay for someone else’s also just because I’m eating out! If the owner can’t afford it then she needs to figure something else out.

I don’t live there, but if I did, I’d never eat in such a place.

Obamacare already charges us a “fair contribution” so the amish can squirt out a baby every nine months, and get all the transgenders converted, and I’ll be damned if I’ll contribute to anyone else’s healthcare.

Which, BTW, leads me to ask, when are they going to decide the percentage of my “contribution” so I can write it off on my taxes?

What does "cost of healthcare" even mean? Does it mean medical insurance? Does it mean their Medicaid copayments? Does it mean that, when employees go to the doctor, the bills are sent to the employer?

It would be good if the establishments would boldly print “Obamacare” instead of simple “healthcare” on their menus, signage, etc. Force patrons - the ones stupid enough to go there - to connect being screwed with Obama and Democrats.

Just the usual stuff. Birth control and sex reassignment.

Well, contraceptives cost dimes, but if she’s paying for major surgery for her employees, one can see why she needs a little more revenue.

It’s a way to commit restaurant suicide.

If you are warned in advance I have no issue with this; it is probably the only way some thick-headed people understand nothing is “free” - and in some cases the only money some people will spend on ANY healthcare at all (while we pay for theirs).

3% comes to 60 cents for every $20 spent, seriously?

I think EVERY business should do this and it should be 50%!

Want to see the people on BOTH SIDES of the aisle dial 911 emergency to immediately repeal Obamacare? This would do it!

Yes, that’s the math.

2000 cents x 0.03 = 60

Seriously though... They are going to be forced to raise their prices to cover it anyhow. It might be better to show why they have to on the bill rather than just hide it. You will indeed be paying more to cover it either way.

“I don’t live there, but if I did, I’d never eat in such a place.”.....

My guess is that numerous places will, or have already increased their prices to cover the additional expense of healthcare. If they didn’t make a public announcement, you would never know.

I guess paying the same much higher price but not seeing why on he bill is less painful? I think seeing why on the bill might be more honest and help make a point.
