Yes, there was one on July 20, 1963. I was in summer camp in Maine and the counselors had us all making stuff out of cardboard boxes to use to view the thing... it was all pretty exciting.
Right now the Sun is shining on states that went for Trump, and those that went for Clinton. Tonight, at midnight, the Sun will not be shining on those states.
Completely meaningless, like this article.
99 years since the last one. 122 years until the next. You don't have to be an Aztec to want to participate in a rare event like that on our blessed soil.
I’ll be making that drive. I’ve been waiting for this thing for 40 years!
Anything passing over the US in any direction would overwhelming pass over trump country.
It is an awesome event if done safely. It is rare in a certain way. They happen every other year on earth but the earth being mostly a water planet most ot them happen over the ocean.
I`m down in Tn smack in the line for the max.
Read they were expecting 400K in Hopkinsville.
This will be my second total eclipse...saw one at Ft Bragg
way back in `70.
My relatives say it found you again.
May you have clear skies that day
LOL! Love it!
It’s a good thing this is happening during the daytime instead of night.
Great song! Add to the list for your road trip to watch the eclipse. My list would add... Hotel California, Cats In the Cradle, ... So many, but I surely date myself, and likely drive my boys crazy.
Made motel reservations months ago. Double checked , they are still in effect.
My sons are flying /driving in and we’re going to see it.
Can’t wait.
Lefties and their pagan beliefs are amusing.
The “gods” blocked the sun on May 28, 588 BC. Right in the middle of a big battle between the Medes and Lydians.

Ever notice in APOCALYPTO a solar eclipse stops the sacrifices, yet the next day or so we see a full moon over Yucatan. I don’t think the moon was in the right place for a full moon at that time.
That's what I'm doing. Driving from Fort Worth to somewhere in Kansas. We'll stop about 2-3 hours out then get up early to head to a small town to watch.
We’re also giving some thoughts to avoiding Interstates on Monday morning, in case of traffic accidents, delays. I’ve got to get some more DeLorme gazeteers, too, just in case we need to do some dead tree reckoning ;-)
There will be another in 2024. For that one, all I'll have to do is step out my front door. Planning to have a party if I'm still around.
I saw one in 1979. It was like someone pulled the pull cord on a light and suddenly the light went off in the sky. The sky turned black down to the horizon where a complete circle of red like dawn or sunset was.and a small bit of blue sky. The stars came out where they always are but we cannot see due to the brightness of sunlight. Like I said above it is awesome and lives up to the hype.
In Oregon, the total eclipse passes between Portlandia and Eugene. It misses entirely counties that went for Clintoon, except for a few coastal counties.
