McConnell to consider bipartisan plan to pay health insurers

A week after an attempt to repeal the Affordable Care Act failed, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says he’d consider a bipartisan effort to continue payments to insurers to avert a costly rattling of health insurance markets.

McConnell told reporters Saturday there is “still a chance” the Senate could revive the measure to repeal and replace “Obamacare,” but he acknowledged the window for that is rapidly closing.

The Kentucky senator noted Republican Sen. Lamar Alexander of Tennessee is working on “some kind of bipartisan approach” that would involve subsidies for insurance companies.

Alexander recently said he will work with the committee’s top Democrat, Sen. Patty Murray of Washington state, on a bill next month that would pay insurers through 2018. In exchange, Alexander wants Democrats to agree to make it easier for states to choose their own health coverage standards that insurers must provide rather than abiding by former President Barack Obama’s law. …

Not only will the Republicans refuse to repeal Obamacare, they won’t let it fail. They’ll subsidize it.

And they are different from democrats...how, exactly?

So we'll have higher and higher premiums, higher and higher deductibles, and the insurance companies will get taxpayer money to feather their nests with. Fantastic.

Yes, the "moderates" will come to the rescue, which means it will be screwed up even more. And why are they working with the Democrats on anything? They will never get the same consideration from the Demicrats, except when the Dems are dictating how it will be done.

[GOP: The UN of politics]

The GOP was for the “Big Tent” until it elected Trump on them.

Time to go scorched earth on the GOP and start digging up dirt on them - it’s the ONLY thing they listen to.

Trump needs to set up the framework of a 3rd party ASAP. A political organization headed Don Jr. will do for now. Then call Turtle and Amnesty Ryan into the oval office. And ask them if they want to be known in history as the GOP leaders who destroyed the Party of Lincoln.

It’s his conscience rather than his brain. One needs to have sublimated one’s conscience and engaged one’s most base instincts in order to be a RINO.

The truly sad thing is that Obama and his team constructed this devious arrangement precisely so that it would be very hard to dismantle...by politicians with limited courage. Trump needs to veto these efforts to mitigate the damage, and turn up the heat as the real pain is felt in 2018. Played properly you could maintain the House and get to 61-62 seats in the Senate.

What a Bacala Lamar is... Seriously these payments are illegal, end them. He sooooo needs to face a challenger in the primaries, his next time around.

Sounds like they are planning on making them legal. With an “up yours” Trump veto proof majority most likely.

Won’t work. If McTraitor goes this route they’ll easily over ride a veto. House could be different story but no doubt McConnell has some parliamentary tricks up his sleeve.

There is no “limited courage” among the RINOs; they are on the side of the Dems, and they first proved it by not only refusing to defund Zerocare but actually fully funding it during the last term of Obama. They lied through their teeth to their electorate.

No! Insurance companies chose to participate in the scam Obamacare. They chose to take the risk.

Taxpayers’ dollars should NOT be used to bail out non-government firms that made bad decisions, while making money hand-over-fist by increasing the premiums and deductibles for their phony insurance. Their actions to increase profits have hurt millions of individuals and families.

GOP Reps. and Sens. who support this need to be removed from office asap.
