But it is why so many people from Hawaii have English first names. Sam Choy, Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, Daniel Akaka, Benny Agbayani, Benjamin Cayetano....
Now if he was born in Hawaii and his mother named him "Barry Obama" that would have passed muster. But not Barack.
No clerk would have registered him with that name.
