The city of Long Beach has agreed to pay $85,000 to settle a federal lawsuit filed by a Muslim woman whose hijab was pulled off by a male officer while she was in police custody.
The settlement, approved Tuesday, concludes the legal battle undertaken by Kirsty Powell, an African American Muslim. Her lawsuit, filed in 2016, prompted the Long Beach Police Department to reverse its policy barring inmates from wearing religious head coverings.
“There really is no justification for taking off a person’s religious headgear,” said Powell’s attorney, Marwa Rifahie, who also works for the Greater Los Angeles Area Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.
The case started in May 2015 when Powell and her husband were stopped by two officers because he was driving a lowrider vehicle on Long Beach Boulevard, Rifahie said.
She provided them with her identification information. When officers ran her name through their database, they discovered she had three misdemeanor warrants for petty theft, vehicle theft and resisting arrest, police said.

My wife and I were in Sam’s Club and saw a person stuffing merchandise under their female Muslim garb. You could actually see the edges of boxes under “her” long black hijab. We told the staff about it and they refused to do anything and let it leave the store with a bunch of stolen merchandise. It was impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman because it was covered from head to toe.
Who is Marwa Rifahie and just what is she doing in America? Maybe she needs some serious vetting:

African American Muslims are even dumber than the mideast variety. The mideast ones are born into the death cult. African American ones willingly choose to convert to it.
Curious. How can it be known if the person who is said to be under the cover of a hijab is that person? Does the Hijab show enough of whom is covered to confirm the content?
I’ve searched the internet for “show me a person wearing a hijab”, and see there are several types apparently, but only one showed me enough of the person to distinguish an identity.
I think Long Beach is wrong.....again. My family moved to where we are now by escaping from Long Beach. We know that City well.

Turned an otherwise run of the mill petty criminal in to a recipient of 85,000 taxpayer dollars.
How dumb is that?
An acquaintance who worked in a crafts store said that burka- and sari-clad individuals would lift the robe in a back aisle, wrap entire bolts of $15-per-yard fabric around their waist, drop the robe and saunter out of the store.
Misprint in the article. It should read: “On behalf of the taxpayers, the City of Long Beach has agreed to pay ...”
They shouldn’t even be in this country. Now they’re all gonna put on burkas and claim the cops rip them off. Kick them out.
By logical progression, next a ROPer will hold up a bank while masked in their 7th century costume, but walk away with a fat settlement when the cops remove the disguise.
This is one of those things that `shock the conscience’ ... anywhere but a blue state.
