SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The only woman in the Navy SEAL training pipeline has dropped out, a Navy special warfare official confirmed Friday.

The female midshipman voluntarily decided to not continue participating in a summer course that's required of officers who want to be selected for SEAL training, Lt. Cmdr. Mark Walton, a Naval special warfare spokesman, told The Associated Press. The Navy has not released the woman's name, part of a policy against publicly identifying SEALs or candidates for the force.

No other woman has started the long process required to become a Navy SEAL, Walton said...

“The really long-distance records, like swimming the Channel, are held by women. “

Really?

“The fastest verified swim of the Channel was by the Australian Trent Grimsey on 8 September 2012, in 6 hours 55 minutes,[86][87] beating the previous record set in 2007 by Bulgarian swimmer Petar Stoychev.”

My gut instincts tell me you are right. But women have been serving in the military for a long time. Maybe they shouldn’t be SEALS or serve on submarine. It wasn’t that long ago that women were forbidden from engaging in battle, but that has changed. Women are consistently being promoted to officers and even taking command in some arenas. If they can perform at the same level as their peers, they will continue to make advances in the military.

women can swim as well as men

Not sure what you mean by that but can you point me to one World or National Swimming Record where a woman equals or surpasses a man?

Don't get me wrong there are some amazing women swimmers, "Katie" Ledeck for one. But her world record in the 1500m is about a minute slower than the men's.

Let’s test the theory that women can do whatever men can do in combat. Send an all female group out on patrol in Afghanistan and see how it goes.

My husband came up with the name for the first tranny brigade.... Hell on heels.

...just not the muscle strength....

so in other words, regarding tasks requiring muscles, such as everything a soldier is expected to do, women are inferior to men...

anyone with two working brain cells knows that men are superior soldiers to women; it could not be otherwise...

Most of the men fall out.

We don’t hear about them.

Someday thinking and judgement might once again prevail over wishes and feelings and society will abandon the foolish notion that there are no genetic differences and that everyone on the planet is born with equal abilities.

Just a quick glance at the NBA roster should be enough for reasonable people to figure it out on their own.

There is not a woman alive who could become a Navy Seal, Marine Force Recon, Air Force Pararescue, Air Force Combat Controller, or Army Ranger without the physical requirements being drastically lowered. 85% of men can’t. The physical fitness requiments of the US Special Forces are tougher than the NFL. If some of these women think they can do anything a man can do let’s see one become an outside linebacker in the NFL.

From the article: "The woman dropped out of the SEAL Officer Assessment and Selection program. It is open to Naval academy and Navy ROTC midshipmen and cadets during the summer before their senior year."

Basically this is the summer "cruise" for those Midshipmen First Class who believe they would like to pursue the Navy's Special Warfare option upon commissioning following graduation from college/Naval Academy. It is not the SEAL training pipeline.

No matter what it purports to be, it is nonsense to allow women in combat arms of any service.

I understand what you are saying, and I agree to a point.

From my experience women can be serving alongside male units, but not be a part of that unit.
For instance a combat infantry platoon can go out on patrol, and have a female military police with them for that patrol so she can interact with the females the platoon might have to talk to.
No way should a female be with a infantry platoon.

I hope I’m describing this clearly , and not being too confusing. I have a habit of understanding what I am saying , but in words never can clearly articulate my view.
