What is the basis of your contention that the Alt-Right is one of the “kook”s?
I am truly curious if you have some reliable information, or a preponderance of information less reliable, that the Alt-Right protestors are anything other than normal, middle class, white constitutionalists wishing to preserve our history and assert a place at the table in America.
MOST White people are tired of the sh!t. These crowds could be mostly them.
Of course they could be true Nazis too.

I understand the organized rally was to keep the Robert E. Lee statue from being removed by the city????
Why can’t city/state governments just leave the historic statues alone and none of these events would have to take place. I’m not siding with white supremacists - I grew up a Yankee and no dog in the fight but both sides fought and died and all the lives lost need to be honored. What next - remove the Civil War cemeteries? Wipe out the one in Gettysburg for example?
Are we to erase our history? If so, remove the MLK, Jr. statue in DC. With history erased, there would have been no need for MLK, Jr., no civil rights movement so why keep it?
Mc Auliffe and various other dignitaries (??) in VA spoke at their press briefing as if the past 8 years of one certain administration did nothing to fuel the fires that burned through those years and continue on today. They’re not going to acknowledge the hand that spread the gasoline and threw a match on the pile...and gleefully stepped back to watch cities burn. A man who doesn’t step a foot back in what he calls “my hometown”; a city he didn’t live in until he was in his twenties and certainly unsafe to visit. I guess the person himself is even confused about where he came from!
News reporters today were “concerned” about VA being an “open carry state” and violence would erupt because people were at the rally with guns!! I guess maybe they should start being concerned about “cars” also.
If the “alt right”, normal white people or just damned normal Americans are going to do marches they are going to have to assume and be vigilant that they are going to have idiots/infiltrators in their midst that do shit like throw up the “sieg heil salute” and bust a out various flags and symbols guaranteed to give the media a hate hard on.
There was a gathering similar to the Bundy situation out near my place in NV but the first thing the rancher looking for support did when the crowd started showing up was tell every one to leave all their Gadsden flags and rifles in their trucks or go home. They ended up getting their point across and getting the gov to back off AND not providing a spectacle the media could manipulate to their advantage.
Image is everything. You have to turn on the brain and look at any public event/discourse through the lens of “how can I exploit this for the advantage of the elite and ratings” from the standpoint of a media douchebag.
All of the opposition forces have funding and plan their actions with a careful choreography. Most of their ground troops either don’t have jobs or have sympathetic employers in the grievance industries or periferal infrastructure like graphics or scented candles etc... When they field a “protest” the coverage and outcome on the news is baked in.
We on the other hand tend to have jobs making major things or “getting shit done” and we generally end up on the streets pretty spontaneously when we’re at the end of our rope. We’re easy targets for the opposition to slide in a few plants who inevitably end up being the focus of the story when the news coverage comes on.
