I know this and didn’t he also achieve elected office again after the war at some point?

He commanded the Reserve Division of the Army of Tennessee under Lt. General Albert Sidney Johnston , who died at Shiloh . Breckenridge’s ‘Reserve’s were quickly called up into the hot fighting of the 1st day at Shiloh , battling up out of ravines into the peach orchards around what came to be known as ‘bloody pond’ , they formed the right hook of the Confederate trust that overwhelmed Sherman’s troops and sent them reeling and fleeing to a final prepared defensive line. And there Beauregard halted for the night , even though Col Forest told them the Yankee’s were reinforcing from Carlos Buell’s Army of Ohio coming across the river to aid Grant . They could have night attacked and won , but they held in place ,until being overrun and forced to retire on the 2nd day at Shiloh. GG survived it all . Upon retreat Breckenridge ( and Forest) held the advancing Yankees back until the main body of the AoT could retire back to Corinth . And these a-holes want to take his statue down ? If I was there it would be over my dead body .
