Yes, the driver was laying in wait. Premeditated murder.

The driver now charged with murder was motoring around looking for the main crowd of protestors marching to the park and then when he found the head of their march he idled in a parking spot until he saw enough people to aim his vehicle at.
You can now safely discount any claims in the driver’s defense that he was under attack and panicked causing him to drive into the crowd. It’s a domestic terror attack. It is amazing that dozens weren’t killed.
This event happened well after the rally in the park was broken up. A lot of the Unite the Right group relocated to another park a couple of miles away. That park is much bigger and was used as parking for the rally.
The area that you are looking at is only a few blocks away from the original protest sight. There were apparently large groups of counter protesters still on the streets and sidewalks. I don’t know what they were doing there, but there are lots of shops and restaurants in the area.
