CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Sunday strongly defended the police response to the violent demonstrations here on Saturday, saying that law enforcement authorities had done great work in a very delicate situation.
Brittany Caine-Conley, a minister in training at Sojourners United Church of Christ, who had come with other faith leaders to protest against the white nationalists, said she was horrified to see officers in the park watching the violence take place outside in the street.
There was no police presence, she said.
We were watching people punch each other; people were bleeding all the while police were inside of barricades at the park watching. It was essentially just brawling on the street and community members trying to protect each other.
Asked about the brawling and why police did not do more to control it, Brian Moran, Virginias secretary of public safety, said in an interview on Sunday that it was a volatile situation and its unfortunate people resorted to violence.
But, he said, From our plan, to ensure the safety of our citizens and property, it went extremely well.

This douche sack is more than willing to let people die if he thinks it advances his political agenda. Effing Clinton clone.
“allow such highly charged groups to meet?”
I have heard, unconfirmed, that the police led the Unify Right or whatever people into the area where BLM and ANTIFA were waiting, then withdrew. There are some longish youtube speeches alleging this.
Alex Jones outlined this whole scenario.
A Freeper was there and offered this eyewitness account.
They don't call him "The Punk" for nothing.
He’s a total scumbag!
I wonder if the Sessions DOJ investigation is going to do anything other than ratify the popular narrative that it was all the fault of the racist white Trump supporters? Sessions has a chance here to dig in and report the actions of the Major, the Governor and the political orders to the police that lead to the worst confrontations. But will he?
The anti-first amendment fascists and anti-white bigots had no official permission to stage a counter-demonstration. They were there illegally and came prepared for a fight.
It is clear who SHOULD have been the protected group. It is equally clear from witnesses which group started the trouble.
If this is McAuliffe's definition of a successful police action, I'd hate to be anywhere in his state when the police fail.
He will recuse himself and let the Obama Plant named Rosenstein handle it.
They were planning for violence and they got it.
Why weren’t the police protecting the alt.left fascists?
I’m sorry but the guy with the spray can flame thrower is a boss.
“Like a boss.”
Here’s hoping that McAuliffe is named as a defendant in the lawsuits against Charlottesville by ACLU and Rutherford Institute.
I don’t think SESSIONS will do a damned thing to ensure a correct investigation. A correct investigation would include the financing, training, instructions, coordination and leadership of the Antifa and related groups. It would also include all the actions/inactions of state/local law enforcement and pre-existing and contemporaneous planning for that (in)action.
Will Sessions do that? Almost certainly not! Sessions is showing absolutely ZERO leadership and is clearly controlled by the pre-positiond Leftist staffers in his DOJ office. SESSIONS HAS BECOME THEIR SOCK-PUPPET! He’s a gutless wonder.
Expecting driver of charger to claim self-defense.
Also, those neo-nazis better get into shape. Seems like they r all pasty and out of shape, lol.
