Whatever the background of Kessler, there is an SPLC agenda associated with discrediting him. Perhaps, they want to show that Kessler was really a radical, right-wing racist who had infiltrated the Left before reverting to his true colors. Or they want to spread dissension and distrust on the right of their leadership.
The bottom line is that the SPLC will never do anything to hurt their leftist agenda.
What is wrong with the Confederate flag being displayed in public at an event that was ostensibly to preserve the Southern heritage of the Civil War? The Confederate Flag is not the same as the flags with the Swastika. It would be worthwhile to see where those came from.

True to his nature it was Ted Cruz, first in line demanding, the Attorney General investigate the Charlottesville ‘domestic terrorism’ event.
