New York Is Named After A Horrendous Slave Trader (Oh Noes)

New York, both the city and the state, is named after the house of York and particularly for James Stuart, then Duke of York, one of the most successful slavers in colonial American history.

President Donald Trump wondered aloud during a raucous press conference Tuesday whether the impulse to tear down memorials to leaders of the Confederacy like Gen. Robert E. Lee would slip into calls to remove monuments to America’s founders, like Thomas Jefferson and George Washington, both of whom owned slaves.

The memory of slavery is enshrined in the name New York as well as the name of the nation’s capitol, even though both cities have vastly changed from their christening.

James Stuart conquered the settlements between the Delaware and the Connecticut rivers from the Dutch in 1664, and the name of the principal port, New Amsterdam, was promptly changed to honor the new master. James’ brother, King Charles II of England, gave the territory to the duke in exchange for four beaver pelts annually.

The Duke of York, who later became King James I of England (and James VII of Scotland), created Britain’s greatest slave empire known as the Royal African Company, which transported between 90,000 and 100,000 African slaves to the Caribbean and American colonies between 1672 and 1689.

King Charles II established the Royal Adventurers company in 1664, which traded in Africa, and put his younger brother James in charge of the operation. When the company went into debt, James and the crown dissolved it and reformed it into the Royal African Company to focus on the continent full of ivory, gold, and the “single most lucrative commodity,” slaves, Hilary McDonald Beckles, now the vice-chancellor of University of the West Indies, wrote in a 1999 paper for UNESCO.

Explains a lot. NYS taxpayers are slaves to their so-called public servants.

He became James II, not James I.

If we have to eliminate everything that has some historic connection to slavery, there will be nothing left. Actually, I think that’s their goal.

We’re moving into the realm of the absurd here. 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon territory.

And legacy black peoples of America aren’t necessarily simon pure here. Bad old African culture was to take vengeance on other tribes by taking slaves. At one point their ancestors were losers in such games and hence were brought other places or here. But prior to that might they have been “winners”?

I hope this fuss about slavery results in an earnest dialogue about what it is to be free. Certainly it can’t mean the government owns you any more than it means a private citizen can own you.

I hope they burn down links to George Soros. He is the manipulator of today. Being free doesn’t meaning finding some mightier earthly master. It means finding one’s ultimate master in Almighty God.

At what point will the fire of outrage about slavery turn on the Democrat party? That is what I’d like to see which is why I’m not so exercised about Confederate targeted iconoclasm.

Al Sharpton called for renaming New York “MLK City” some 20-25 years ago. No joke.

What if they somehow manage to “assimilate” themselves? This is why I don’t mind this line of self questioning. Let everything slavery come into scorn. Soon they will be knocking on their own doors.

I wonder the following:
When will they tear down the Coliseum the site of many Christian Slaughters?
When will they tear down the Jefferson Memorial?
And let’s not forget Auschwitz and other camps left standing in Germany.
And of course we must name the nation’s capital from Washington to something else
And dismantle the Holocaust Museum
Let’s get working on Paving over Gettysburg; make it into a nice big mall
And of course let’s go after each individual who has had their photo taken in front of any of these memorials because clearly they are celebrating many horrible things that happened in history.
I live near Valley Forge and I am waiting to see many of the statues of George Washington and other slave owners toppled to the ground
I wish I was as smart as a liberal I didn’t know you could erase the past by tearing down statues and destroying buildings oh well I guess I’ll just have to learn to be a smart as them and if there’s a statue of a liberal erected and then later torn down because it offended somebody torn down some day in the future hopefully we won’t forget what they stood for (sarcasm)

At 100,000 African slaves between 1672 and 1689, James was a piker.
Oliver Cromwell (and his successor) sent the Irish into slavery between 1641 and 1652, and reduced the population of Ireland from 1,466,000 to 616,000. That’s 850,000 people, more than 8 times as many as James.

By the way the redneck should come out smelling and looking like a rose here. Why was his neck red? He picked his own cotton.
