Pittsburgh city leaders are looking into whether a statue of musical pioneer Stephen Foster should be moved from a spot along Forbes Avenue in Oakland after years of criticism for its depiction of a black character from one of Fosters songs.
Foster, a Pittsburgh native who died in 1864, is famous for classic songs including Oh! Susanna and Camptown Races. Many of his songs were used in minstrel shows in which actors performed in blackface. The statue depicts Foster sitting above a shoeless banjo-playing Uncle Ned, a slave character from a Foster song.

is that camptown Racists?
It's tainted music! Erase and Destroy!
And no black should ever play professional baseball. Union soldiers brought the game to the south, where many blacks excelled at it. It's a tainted sport for blacks who are descendants of slaves!
Will the "liberals" EVER wake up to what's happening? Erase our history and culture, and the puppetmasters will replace it with one more to their liking.
The blacks seem to be determined on erasing white history and contributions from this Republic. I suppose sooner or later they will demand Mt. Rushmore be dynamited and those evil whites replaced with busts of Sharpton, Jackson and, of course, Michelle and Barack.
The Gershwins are next.
These people have lost their everlovin’ minds!!!!! Sanity is at a premium in these united (or should I say divided) states . . .so sad. This mayhem and chaos is last days stuff.
There goes Al Jolson
And his “marker” at his LA cemetery
But why not Monticello too, McAuliffe? Signer? McCain? Mitt? Lemonis?
I mean, come on . . principles are principles, right?
It’s time Congress stood up and stopped this plague which is totally destructive. Confederate soldiers are veterans, too....and monuments to them should be given the same protections as any Veteran Monument.
What about KKK Robert Byrd’s statue.
> Remove all names they deem offensive or is it just for votes <
It’s the former. Pittsburgh is solidly Democrat. There is no need for the mayor to pander for votes. Instead it’s part of the left’s fascist ideology. Destroy everything you don’t agree with.
Oakland. Say no more...it isn’t necessary.
Ping.
Maybe they'd better get rid of his commemorative stamp, decimate everybody's stamp collection. (I wasn't allowed to have Hitler stamps). Hitler stamps are still ubiquitous.
Exactly. “Old Black Joe” is a case in point. But Foster’s songs are probably a bit to subtle for today’s social justice warriors. Out of ignorance about Foster and his works, they will see only what they want to see, and they won’t like it.
Look at how “Huckleberry Finn” has been criticized, even banned, because of the use of certain racial terminology, especially in regard to Jim. But, by my reading of the book, Jim is the only truly unconflicted decent and moral person in it, and is its hero.
I hope you’re right and the majority of this country recoils in horror at the inanity and takes it out at the ballot box.
Lunacy.
> When the Civil War broke out, Stephen Foster took a stand for the Union, not the Confederacy. <
That was probably just a smokescreen, a way to hide his racism. That’s what CNN would say, anyway.
All this statue business is a generated issue. Find a thing that can be exploited and generate controversy. The more antagonistic the better.
It’s pure Alinsky.
When will black rappers and various thug-types everywhere (mostly black and hispanic) stop using the word “nigga”? Most blacks hate the widespread popular use of it, no matter who says it.
Thanks for that quote-———should be spread all over the net.
