Bannon: 'The Trump Presidency That We Fought For, and Won, Is Over.'
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/18/2017 3:50:04 PM PDT by springwater13

“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”

Bannon says that he once confidently believed in the prospect of success for that version of the Trump presidency he now says is over. Asked what the turning point was, he says, “It’s the Republican establishment. The Republican establishment has no interest in Trump’s success on this. They’re not populists, they’re not nationalists, they had no interest in his program. Zero. It was a half-hearted attempt at Obamacare reform, it was no interest really on the infrastructure, they’ll do a very standard Republican version of taxes.

“What Trump ran on – border wall, where is the funding for the border wall, one of his central tenets, where have they been? Have they rallied around the Perdue-Cotton immigration bill [legislation proposed by Republican Senators David Perdue and Tom Cotton that would revamp the system of legal immigration, favoring immigrants with education, skills and English proficiency. On what element of Trump’s program, besides tax cuts – which is going to be the standard marginal tax cut – where have they rallied to Trump’s cause? They haven’t.”

We continue to do poll after poll finding dreadful approval numbers for GOP Senators, and a huge part of it is Trump voters disliking them "

Now Bannon is loosed amongst them like a wolf upon a flock.

Hannity smashes them as traitors every single night on TV. Doesn’t make any difference.

Wake the **** up.

I’m wide awake. Trump is fighting for us. Now is not the time for his supporters to surrender. That’s exactly what the GOPe wants.

He’s right about one thing... the Republican establishment.. I’m completely ashamed of every one of them.. and am angry at every one of them... They cannot stand up for the President we elected and I’ll never forget where their loyalty lies.. it’s with the money they have stolen and put in their pockets.. and next, it’s the power they wield.. and next it’s the democrats who are their “dear friends”... They have sewn their favors and it’s not to the people! I shall never vote for an establishment republican again! EVER!

Steve made the one mistake that you simply cannot make and keep your job. Don’t go up against your boss’s family. Don’t allow anyone to boost your ego by insinuating that you are your boss’s brain. It never ends well. And you know what? Maybe he is great at thinking and talking but not good at running an office or maybe he was the leaker because he thinks he is the power behind the Iron Throne. I’ve read 6 of DJT’s books and he doesn’t tolerate any employee getting too full of themselves and unless you knew him back when he was living in his efficiency apartment you don’t get any input beyond the sphere he hired you for.

If the Party of Stupid had any leadership abilities, they could control DC and keep the Dems in minority status for the next 40 years.

The GOPe are not stupid. They’re progressive corportists.

...why would Bannon give an interview in which he contradicted an important part of Trumps Korea policy?

IMO, Trump, as President of the U.S., presented a responsible and appropriate position re NK. Bannon spoke in unofficial back-channel verbiage that realistically announced the enormous hurdle we face on the Korean peninsula. Bannon "leaked" it to the liberal press in an attempt to gain the broadest coverage.

The hurdle? Today, NK has the capability to quickly cause enormous harm to SK if we were to employ hostile measures. Given time and sufficient assets in place we could defeat that capability, but not today. Nor would SK agree to absorbing that potential damage.

As mentioned above, it looks like Bannon and Trump are playing good cop and bad cop, and my money says they are working closely.

POTUS doesn’t have to play anything when he’s the one who hired the “moderate” establishment types in the WH.

He can flat out fire them and replace them with solid conservatives.

Bannon’s not a performer, his role is more like a publisher/producer.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with the parts you just quoted, or have a problem with Bannon saying that in an interview. The GOPe is the problem. Agreed.

The part of the Weekly Standard quote attributed to Bannon that is disturbing is the talk about “that presidency, the presidency we fought for, and won, is over.”

It’s disturbing because it sounds like Bannon is saying Trump has given up.

It is also suspect because the Weekly Standard is not above twisting words to further the narrative that Trump is failing.

If the quote is accurate then it is disturbing that Bannon would go to the neverTrumpers and give them this scoop.

I still have lots of questions.

Yes. It really irks me when posters call them wimps or dumb. No, they’re not. They’re worst than that.

Did you even read the article?

I was so hoping for a classy departure. He would look so much better if he were a diplomat and a professional (and a good American).
