Bannon: 'The Trump Presidency That We Fought For, and Won, Is Over.'
Weekly Standard ^

Posted on 08/18/2017 3:50:04 PM PDT by springwater13

“The Trump presidency that we fought for, and won, is over,” Bannon said Friday, shortly after confirming his departure. “We still have a huge movement, and we will make something of this Trump presidency. But that presidency is over. It’ll be something else. And there’ll be all kinds of fights, and there’ll be good days and bad days, but that presidency is over.”

Bannon says that he once confidently believed in the prospect of success for that version of the Trump presidency he now says is over. Asked what the turning point was, he says, “It’s the Republican establishment. The Republican establishment has no interest in Trump’s success on this. They’re not populists, they’re not nationalists, they had no interest in his program. Zero. It was a half-hearted attempt at Obamacare reform, it was no interest really on the infrastructure, they’ll do a very standard Republican version of taxes.

“What Trump ran on – border wall, where is the funding for the border wall, one of his central tenets, where have they been? Have they rallied around the Perdue-Cotton immigration bill [legislation proposed by Republican Senators David Perdue and Tom Cotton that would revamp the system of legal immigration, favoring immigrants with education, skills and English proficiency. On what element of Trump’s program, besides tax cuts – which is going to be the standard marginal tax cut – where have they rallied to Trump’s cause? They haven’t.”

No tax reform.

No repeal & replace.

No nothing.

McConnell and Ryan are leading the “conservative movement.”

The joke, once again, is on us.

It’s only been 7 months. No need to get your panties in a bunch just yet.

Should have been booted long ago. Heck, he never should have been there in the first place.

Boy are you wrong. He was the only one fighting the fight that needed to be fought.

The Swamp is too entrenched.

It’s only lost in terms of restoration by working within the system.

[The President is surrounded by so many that are not in his best interest. . .including family members.]

He’d be better off sending IVANKA & JAROD back to NYC. They are his Achilles heel.

If the Party of Stupid had any leadership abilities, they could control DC and keep the Dems in minority status for the next 40 years. But, they are known as the Party of Stupid because they are stupid. They prefer the old establishment status quo and would be quite satisfied with the Dems regaining control of Congress.

If the Dem Party wasn't in such disarray, they could easily come back to majority status in the Congress in 2018 and 2020.

7 months ugh?
Dude, they had SEVEN YEARS to work on an Obamacare repeal and replace Bill. The GOP won control of the House and the Senate campaigning on Obamacare repeal. Turns out it was all a lie. Paul Ryan is the biggest swamp creature alive.

If Bannon really said this presidency is over, because he’s no longer in the White House, his ego is bigger than Scaramucci. However, this is the Weekly Standard, so I take this with a grain of salt.

Trump doesnt seem to mind surrounding himself with obama holdovers (which he could fire), democrat appointees who dont believe in his agenda like mcmaster, dina habib, tillerson, kelly, etc etc.

No wonder his agenda is DOA. Between the globalist open borders gop, establishment dirtbags, deeps state operatives, obama bureaucrats and the partisan democrats he has no chance.

I’m afraid Bannon is right. There will be some good days during Trump’s tenure, but they may largely be executive orders and other actions fairly easily reversible in the future. I hope Trump can continue to nominate, and get confirmed, conservative judges. However, as far as conservative legislation that could be more lasting, it doesn’t look so good.

Kudos to Bannon for trying to steer the monstrosity we call a federal government to the right while having so many people taking shots at him.

You’ve got to look at this as an 8 year project for Trump. If the GOPe wants war they shall have it.

Bannon is correct about the GOP.

They’ve been passing bills to repeal Obamacare and sending them to Obama for years. All of a sudden they can’t figure it out.

They didn’t get a tax cut done. Even if they get it done later we won’t benefit from it until 2019.

I think he’s right on. The GOP is blocking Trump’s agenda.

Who was that, rummychick? I don’t remember that.

He isn’t who I thought he was, and many here tried to warn us. I am as disgusted as you are. I am reminded of the phrase Sarah Palin used to use: Lipstick on a Pig. I guess my refrain shall be: “At least he’s not Hillary.” She would have filled the FEMA camps with us.
