Steve Bannon Is Overrated
New York Times ^ | August 18, 2017 | MATTHEW CONTINETTI

Posted on 08/18/2017 4:28:59 PM PDT by Hadean

The White House chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon’s departure was widely applauded, and not only by the Washington establishment Mr. Bannon has spent a career excoriating. After the news broke, traders at the New York Stock Exchange “literally cheered,” according to a CNBC report.

Yet the reaction was not uniformly positive. Supporters of Mr. Trump’s America First nationalism worried that Mr. Bannon’s exit might sever the ties between the president and his electoral base.

“Any move to fire Bannon,” wrote the editor of the pro-Trump website American Greatness in recent days, “is more dangerous to the future of the Trump administration than anything Robert Mueller can do.”

But Mr. Trump’s supporters are wrong to worry. Mr. Bannon is the latest in a long line of political advisers whose reputations are inflated after an election victory. Mr. Bannon may have given much thought to traditionalism and populism, may have publicized its themes as chairman of Breitbart.com, may be able to name drop René Guénon, Julius Evola, Jean Raspail, Neil Howe and William Strauss. But President Trump’s inflammatory response to the clashes and killing last week in Charlottesville, Va., made it clear that it is he, and not Mr. Bannon, who maintains a gut connection with his most die-hard supporters. The most important culture warrior in this administration sits at the Resolute Desk.

Mr. Bannon’s reputation is overrated.

Yes, he transformed Breitbart from an irreverent blog into the iconoclastic tribune of nation-state populism, the anti-elitist ideology of border walls, travel bans and political incorrectness.

But his career as a political consultant has been short and checkered. As the president has observed, Bannon did not join Trump’s campaign until August 2016, by which time Trump had secured the Republican nomination. Mr. Trump’s victory was remarkable. It was also something of a black-swan event.

Mr. Bannon has spent a career excoriating

A career? No one heard of him before one year ago.

As a friend of Steve’s, I find it amusing that people think Donald Trump is an empty vessel who can only do whatever Bannon or McMaster tell him.

The alt-left media is really paranoid now! This headline is laughable! Bannon will accelerate their implosion. They will not be able to lie and make stuff up fast enough.

I don’t think he is overrated.

Among other things, he s showing continued loyalty to Trump and intends to continue to help in a new role.

Go, Bannon.

Go, Trump.

You’re a funny fella, I must have missed Bannon’s name on my ballot.
To everything there is a time and place, I believe Bannon is going to surprise you and you will probably recover from this break up.

They wish. Bannon was the only anti-swamp, border control, build the wall voice in the Trump circle.

Watch those issues to find out if they stay front and center in the Trump white house.

Correct. No one voted for Bannon, or Jared, or McMaster.

Trump knows what he’s doing.

What it does is give Bannon free rein to speak his unbridled mind about all the establishment repubs and the left.
