Bannon Plots Fox Competitor, Global Expansion
Axios ^ | August 19, 2017

Posted on 08/19/2017 6:44:47 AM PDT by Helicondelta

Axios' Jonathan Swan hears Bannon has told friends he sees a massive opening to the right of Fox News, raising the possibility that he's going to start a network.

- Bannon's friends are speculating about whether it will be a standalone TV network, or online streaming only.

- Before his death in May, Roger Ailes had sent word to Bannon that he wanted to start a channel together. Bannon loved the idea: He believes Fox is heading in a squishy, globalist direction as the Murdoch sons assume more power.

- Now he has the means, motive and opportunity: His chief financial backer, Long Island hedge fund billionaire Bob Mercer, is ready to invest big in what's coming next, including a huge overseas expansion of Breitbart News.

On Day 1, Breitbart declared he's taking his West Wing infighting to the outside, telling Bloomberg Businessweek's Josh Green that he's "going to war for Trump against his opponents — on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America."

The reality is that Bannon will go nuclear on former colleagues he calls "West Wing Democrats": economic adviser Gary Cohn, Jared and Ivanka ("Javanka," as he calls them) and Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell.

The revved-up Breitbart operation is also likely to target Speaker Ryan, as it did before Trump.

It’s highly unlikely there would be an IPO. He has hedge fund backers. Why would they want the hassle and scrutiny of a public offering, and all the regulations that go with being publicly held?

——Why not do both so as to capture as much audience across the entire demographic spectrum as possible?——

The primary reason is that COMCAST is the largest cable TV provider and being a tool of the left wingers that are the DNC, would never allow the network to access the COMCAST network.

So far as I know, Spectrum has no political ties but does not have the subscribers that Comcast has. Remember, COMCAST is NBC, MSNBC and numerous other cable channels. COMCAST is truly an American enemy.

I can envision COMCAST cutting off specific programming on the new channel if there was objectionable news negative to the left

I would invest in a nanosecond.

I think most smart money would as well, which is why this needs to happen.

It seems logical that they would just buy an existing network or channel that already has space on cable and satellite systems.

Trump is hit on every side from so many ... it is a constant barrage coming at him. Trump’s negotiating skills are met with the hateful resistance of even the Republican party... they have not helped at all... they have cut him short.

Trump’s negotiating skills worked for NKorea... those kind of ‘negotiating skills’ are the most important... to NOT give in to the tyrants .. to stand his ground like none of the rest of them can do..They are used to giving in or paying for a side win... I wanted someone who would fight and not back down.. Trump has done that so far.

He didn’t have to leave his life and get into this mess... he did it to better America... and they are all so stuck in their ways and keeping their power.. they won’t help Trump at all... and I’m angry at them beyond words.. it’s been horrible what they’ve done to him... and Varney is not speaking with a sound mind if he has decided to criticize our President.. with all the wind blowing at him... he’s still standing!

Never has a President had to deal with such hate and attacks. obama, who is the worst of them all in ‘making deals’... he is still adored by the media. obama made some of the worst in the world and paid out millions to our enemies.. Varney should remember that. and Varney should take notice of the stock market... Trump is the reason it’s up... and varney KNOWS that much!!

We need to answer varney’s tweets!

I don’t think the massive hole that’s been opened is necessarily on the right. Instead, the massive hole is on the truth side of the news ledger.

We need a news outlet that seeks truth no matter where it leads. Nearly every current outlet has given themselves over to outright advocacy, including Drudge. The NYTimes and Wash Post have made complete fools of themselves, as has CNN, now preferring outright propaganda to anything approaching objective reporting.

Paid OTT is just preaching to the converted. Hard to see how Bannon can get a TV net off the ground in this toxic environment. Sorry to be a debbie downer

I think this (may) be the opportunity, to launch an actual competitor to the monolithic left-speech which currently is in American media.

EVERYONE is in the same bunch. ABC. NBC. CBS. CNBC. MSNBC. Time. CNN. Even Fox now is just, on the right-end of the left.

What is different now, the first time this is the case, is that now, we have a real president.

This is the first time, since Reagan.

This might be the time, for Bannon to launch an actual competitor. Pro-American in trade. Pro-American in view. And absolutely un-apologetic about being patriots.

EVERYONE in American media has gone to one side.

It is time, for someone to stand up for our side.

Bannon's first meeting after leaving the WH was with Robert Mercer. I can guarantee you that a new or converted existing cable network was the main subject of discussion.

I would think part of that discussion was this: ATT is going to spin off CNN after or as part of their purchase of Time.

Bannon might merge Brietbart and CNN, under the condition that ATT negotiate and fund (i.e. knock off the sales price) a buyout of all the liberal broadcasters unwilling to buy in to the new concept of conservative news. Have ATT negotiate buyouts for all of the biggest CNN on air liars with no opportunity to consider the new concept (tell Jim Acosta and Brian Stelter...GET OUT).

Fire Zucker (stick ATT with his contract), replace him with Bill Shine.

Bring on board Hannity, Sharyl Attkisson, Jesse Watters, Jeff Lord, and as many other Fox reporters who want to jump ship.

Hire Megyn Kelly as receptionist.

Well, FOX has abdicated its position under the young Murdochs. Good luck, Steve.

If Bannon makes serious moves to actually create such a new network vs just talking about it, this may push Bill O’Reily to accelerate his similar plans. The better option may be that they combine their respective talents.
Bannon may be a brilliant political strategist, but I don’t see him holding an audience on camera week after scheduled week. That’s Bill’s specialty.

I’ll donate to that endeavor - following Bannon on Twitter and sending him words of support. Hope he follows through.

Many people still use regular tv. If it could be on basic cable fine, but to be effective I believe it needs to be universal. Lots of bucks. Are we willing to pay for the media/education blitz?

The Truth will set them free but the freedom to free them is not free.
