The Murdoch boys are either business fools or pansies who are cow-towing to their SJW wives.

Hard to figure how you take the ONE franchise that sells a product that over 50% of the public wants and decides, no, you want to go with what the 10 other competitors selling what 48% of the public want.

I thought the fall of Fox was chiefly about their $15bn bid for the 61% of Sky in the U.K. they don't own, and that government's effective blocking on what seems to be political grounds. That is, Murdoch boys want a new toy, UK government holds up acquisition because it doesn't like Fox US' right-leaning hosts (I know...they really aren't that right...please work with me!), so they shift leftward. Fox US' estimated market value of $12bn and - so they think - they can probably withstand some leftward shift ("maybe we will pick up some market share!") so it's off to the races.

I don't doubt there are other forces at play, including wives and social acquaintances. But it is worth mentioning that generational transfers of power are risky moments in a business' life cycle. In short, the second generation is more likely to ruin the firm than the first generation....they kids, they just did not have that killer instinct. Indeed look at all the "robber barons" and their progeny - like the Rockefeller descendants' fossil fuel dust-up. It looks like the Murdoch kids aren't all that different in this regard.
