Expanding their attacks, many longtime critics of President Trump are accusing him of moral failure. Their claim is that his remarks following the Charlottesville, Va., mayhem failed to sufficiently condemn neo-Nazis and KKK wannabes.
While I believe Trump is being unfairly accused of praising white supremacists, he is certainly guilty of a fools errand in trying to draw fine distinctions among those on the right in the aftermath of the death of Heather Heyer. His disjointed, off-the-cuff delivery in a rowdy press conference in the lobby of Trump Tower compounded the impossible and gave license to those inclined to see him through the glass most darkly.
Still, morals are in the eyes of the beholder, and although I wont argue with the moral failure chorus, there are other issues that also matter.
Those are the issues I find more compelling than rhetorical ones, and it is because of them that Im not throwing in the towel on the Trump presidency.
Broadly speaking, these moral tests fall into two categories: Economic and national security.
They are policy questions, but what makes them moral is the degree to which they help and protect Americans of all races. The calculus is rough: If 100 million people benefit from a policy, I count it as more moral than a policy that benefits 10 million.
Its also a matter of who benefits. If a policy only makes the comfortable more comfortable, thats not as moral as a policy that expands opportunity for those left behind by previous policies.
And growing the economic pie so more people can participate is more moral than merely redistributing the existing pie, just as a government committed to individual liberty is more moral than one that restricts personal choice in the name of fairness.

I would not have said his delivery was disjointed and off the cuff. The corrupt Media Party will take anything he says, regardless of how he said it, and twist and distort it to what they think it means and that certainly would include condoning the KKK and Nazis.
Goodwin has generally been a Trump supporter, but he writes as someone who has been living in a NYC bubble for years. He’s worked in the media and academia all his life, and it’s obvious that he is completely detached from what makes Trump so popular among his supporters.
The framing of the argument depends largely on what code of morals is involved. There is a whole universe of thinking, in which the meaning of “moral” is inverted, and by that standard, President Trump would appear to be “disjointed”. But just as the Koran contains no equivalent of either the Ten Commandments or anything remotely resembling the Golden Rule, the words of the Old Testament and the New Testament specifically spell these principles out. More importantly, the Koran has instructed the followers of Islam NOT to ever refer to these earlier texts, but that the Koran is the ONLY authority they are permitted to quote from or apply to daily life.
The mainstream press has become the secular Muslims. In many ways, there is no way to relate to their universe.
Trump has something all his detractors lack - moral clarity....they hate him for that.
That basically defines Michael Goodwin. He, like that British idiot Melanie Phillips, can’t say anything nice about Trump without insulting him for 3 paragraphs first.
“You’re my mother” slap
“You’re my sister” slap

Trump’s initial statement was fine and so was the next one that mentioned the KKK, Neo-nazis, and white supremacists. The heated exchange with the MSM was Trump stating the truth based on facts versus a MSM narrative that did not want any mention of the violent left groups that also deserve blame and condemnation.
Goodwin is too eager to accept the MSM’s narrative about Trump’s “mistakes” about his statements when the reality is that he did nothing wrong and spoke the truth. Antifa and BLM are violent hate groups that need to be identified by name. If anything, this was Trump’s only mistake. The Alt-left is too general.
save for later
Indeed!
And it was ONLY a rowdy press conference because of the rowdy PRESS.
Not one damned thing wrong with what he said.
In the eyes of the mediots, Trump can do nothing right. That’s their story line and they are going to stick to it, no matter what Trump does, it’s always the wrong thing.
A quick example of the issue with the NorKs. Trump went full crazy to counter crazy, and you know what.....Fat-boy blinked. While it may seem inarticulate, it worked.
The “Unite” thing in Charlotesville was a false flag operation set up by the democRATS and the Obama/Clinton cabal to the benefit of Clinton crony Terry McAuliff for 2020. While the mediots won’t say it, it is pretty obvious what it was to anyone who cares to look. When Trump blamed both sides...and it was really all one side (democRATS) the mediots went hysterical.
Trump is exactly who I wanted in the White House. A man with balls, willing to take on the democRATS on their own turf. Someone who won’t back down, won’t accept their premises in questioning. And who will continue to do the work we elected him to do. The GOPe is going to have to fall in line, or be dealt with harshly.

how precise does could the President be?
16 Aug: The Hill: The media couldn’t be more blatant in distorting Trump’s words on Charlottesville
By John Lott, Jr
But Trump never said that the white supremacists and neo-Nazis were very fine people. He said that there two different types of people protesting the taking down of the Robert E. Lee statue the racists (some very bad people in that group), and people who thought that for the sake of history it was important not to take down the statue...
Trump: And you had people, and I’m not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people in that group other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists.
OK? And the press has treated them absolutely unfairly.
Reporter: You were saying the press has treated white nationalists unfairly? (inaudible) understand what you’re saying.
Trump: No, no. There were people in that rally, and I looked the night before. If you look, they were people protesting very quietly the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee. I’m sure in that group there were some bad ones. The following day, it looked like they had some rough, bad people neo-Nazis, white nationalists, whatever you want to call them.
But you had a lot of people in that group that were there to innocently protest and very legally protest, because you know I don’t know if you know, they had a permit. The other group didn’t have a permit.
President Trump made it very clear that his comment did not pertain to neo-Nazis and the white nationalists. When a reporter misinterpreted his very clear statement, Trump again made it clear that the bad people were the neo-Nazis, white nationalists.
How much clearer could the president be?
The press continually misreports Trumps statements...
Does the press just think that no one will look at what Trump actually said? For those who do look at the original interview and Trumps multiple, clear statements on the matter, the media risks losing what little credibility it still has.

the FakeNewsMSM has given people a licence to riot, to degrade, to threaten and, perhaps, even kill a democratically-elected President.
why? because they colluded with the Clinton campaign to get their nominee elected, and FAILED.
they will use any means necessary to avoid having to answer for their very real collusion (witness the Podesta emails, which the FakeNewsMSM vitually ignored).
Total lie that the President did not condemn. Goodwin you are a zero- integrity liar. Analysis of what Mr. Trump said will be brought to light over and over. You and the lying media will be held to account for this patently false malignant smear. To hell with you Goodwin.
The press conference was a success. He told the truth.
msm demands practiced and polished. President Trump has no need for teleprompter.
