Advocates of liberal society are a side in themselves, and the left- and right-wing thugs battling in the streets are rival siblings from an illiberal family.
...The problem many Americans had with Trump's weasel words was that Heather Heyer was dead, and many other people injured, in Charlottesville, allegedly at the hands of James Alex Fields, Jr., a neo-Nazi who drove his car into a crowd in an act of political terrorism. And Fields was in Charlottesville to attend a rally featuring a dollar-store version of a Leni Riefenstahl torch-lit parade, chants of "Jews will not replace us," and racist speakers like Richard Spencer, who openly support Trump. A little specificity in placing blame would seem to be in order, but was prominent by its absence in Trump's comments.
...Despite our many differences over specific policies, most Americans have traditionally supported the side of liberty, tolerance, free speech, and peaceful political change, within broad parameters. That side is in opposition to the violent, authoritarian thugs of the right and of the left. If we regain our faith in what we already have, there's no reason to choose between rival siblings competing to rule over the ruins of everything that's worthwhile on behalf of their illiberal family.

Not quite correct. They were not “right wingers” who were chanting NAZI salutes and carrying tiki torches at Charlottesville. They were left-wingers (KKK, etc.) acting as though they are “right wing”. Right wingers are free markets, free speech, personal responsibility, and small government. The Democrats, KKK, Antifa, etc. have never been for small government, but for large government revolution!
A footnote here. If you total up all of the Nazi-Party members in the US, and the KKK members (real members)...it would at best fill up one single baseball stadium (less than 50,000).
In relationship to this, if you added up everyone in Chicago who is shot or shot-dead in a normal year (2016) and multiply that by a decade...it’d come to 43,300 roughly. Since we aren’t really worrying about the death or wounded toll in Chicago....I don’t see a reason to worry much over this KKK-Nazi number.
Just for today; I'm adding this gif of Mr. Pepperballs to all my posts. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
I like the name Trump gave them:
“Auntie Fa”
or how about “Auntie Fa Fa”???
This is a lot like the 1930s in Germany and France when in Germany you had the Nazi vs the Communists and in France with the Front Populaire (Marxist/socialists/communists) vs the Action Francaise (fascists) fighting each other in the streets.
Just watch the excellent “World at War” WW2 1970s documentary.
Breaking News! LMAO! That made my day because otherwise the whole thing just boils me.
Reason, a publication that agrees with Antifa on abortion, drugs, gay marriage, trannies in the military, and open borders. The free market isn’t going to shut down the invasion, that will take government action. Is that facism?
Ironic that antifa, the paramilitary arm
of the Democrat party now is battling the old paramilitary arm of the Democrat party, the KKK.
Mr. Pepperballs, LOL
Interesting. I knew about the other positions most Reason writers take with the exception of transgenders in the military.
Not many articles on the subject but this one has lots of comments from readers:
Trump Is on the Losing Side of the Culture War With Transgender Military Issue

This is exactly on target. The neo-Nazis and Antifa are on the same side, and it’s the side we oppose.
Jason Kessler, the “Unite the Right” organizer, is an Obama supporter and a former Occupy member.
Richard Spencer is a supporter of single payer.
David Duke stood with Cindy Sheehan in Crawford.
So the left agrees with Kessler, Spencer, and Duke. That must make them Nazis.
