Excuse me, but asking someone to lie for you is equal to making the lie yourself. It’s no different than ‘Subornation of Perjury.’ You are procuring another to lie ... How is it any different, morally, then when lying, in a material matter? The only difference is you’re not “under oath,” which would then make the subornation a criminal offense. To induce someone to lie, IS to lie.

Here is the difference:

A) Fred tells a lie to Wilma, Barney, and Betty. Wilma, Barney, and Betty pass on the lie in their blogs.

B) Fred asks Wilma, Barney, and Betty to tell a lie in their blogs. Wilma and Barney lie in their blogs. But Betty is more honest and tells everyone what happened.

In case A the only person who is clearly unethical is Fred. If Wilma, Barney, and Betty were deceived themselves they are not guilty of deception. They might be guilty of negligence if as bloggers they should have fact checked harder, but they are not guilty of straight up lying at the least.

In case B, Fred, Wilma, and Barney are all clearly guilty of deception. Telling a lie is not the only way to deceive. The difference is that the deception is now carried out collectively as a group...with the defector of the honest Betty who blew the whistle. Thus betraying the trust of Fred by being the only one doing the right thing.

I hope it is now clear what difference I was getting at. I was not trying to justify the person who asked others to lie, I was pointing out she was not the only deceptive one here.
