Absolutely. I remember driving home north out of Anaheim at 10:00PM, from Disneyland. It was in the late 90’s and the 5 freeway was closed right by the USC hospital. I took another freeway from there and my sister asked ‘why don’t you just get off the freeway and get back on in a few blocks’. NOT A CHANCE. People who don’t know the no-go areas of cities shouldn’t ever get off the freeway at night......or any other time.

A great novel (with a following movie) used just such an incident to trigger the main action of the story.
